Mihintale Junction

Mihintale junction is a roundabout with a replica of an oil lampt along the A9 (Kandy - Jaffna) highway. This is a landmark for the pilgrims to denote a small detour towards the sacred Mihintale historical & archaeological monastic complex, which is known to be the cradle of Theravada Buddhism in ancient "Seehaladeepa", as Sri lanka was called by then.

The Mihintalea Sanctuary, a beautiful place that makes Rajarata proud, can be considered as the starting point, the Mihintalea Shrine as a starting point and a turning point. I am especially proud of it. Because I am a resident of that city.
