Richard Homestay

While looking for a super selfie spot, I came across Richard by chance and it turned into a super cooking and eating lark. Thank you very much.

We stayed one night with Richard. His accommodation is very nice, clean and comfortable. For the delicious breakfast we enjoyed the view on the mountains from his terrace. Also the dinner-cooking with Richard was great and ended up in delicious food made by ourselves! Highly recommended!

Richard is a fantastic host, with an open smile and welcoming vibe he made our stay so easy and it felt like staying with family. The cooking class we had with him and his wife was amazing and the food was just delicious! We loved our stay in Richard's homestay. He is a lovely guy, always available to help you. The breakfast is really good, one of the best we had in Sri Lanka. The room is confortable, clean. Everything was perfect. Thank you Richard!

Nice guest, clean rooms, near the railway station. The way to the homestay is a bit difficult from the main road, if you have heavy lagguage you should take a tuktuk, but the view is nice up here!

Like everyone else, we loved Richard who was so kind and helpful during our stay. The rooms are very nice and clean; the shower could use a little more pressure but that would be all we could recommend to improve.

If you want to taste the best breakfast from Ella and to meet people with extremly good heart, come in this place! The guest helped us with all the we need, info about the trips, transportation.everything! Moreover, the location is very close to the railway station, so it will be easy for you to arrive, in case you take the train from Kandy to Ella.

Very clean rooms, excelent traditional breakfast and dinner and you can arrange transport / trips both in Ella and Udawalawe at very good prices.

We had a great stay at this peaceful place with nice views and a kind host. Definitely recommended, but be prepared to walk up a steep hill.

Richard is welcoming, warm and super helpful. He helped us make the most of our time while we stayed with him in Ella. Him and his place are located at the top of A beautiful mountain (the road is a little bit steep BUT he even helped us drive our car easily up to his place). The views are unbelievable, you can even see a waterfall. His homestay is in the perfect location, just minutes walk or TukTuk ride into the awesome town of Ella and to the railroad station. He had the perfect recommendations of what to see, where to go and how to get there. He arranged a tuktuk driver for us, Jonathan, who was awesome. There whenever we needed him. We even got off of the train, arriving back to Ella after a day of adventure, and there Jonathan was, waiting for us. We felt like family. The room was comfortable and exactly what you need for a simple stay. Richard got us wine, taught us how to cook rice and curry and an amazing pumpkin soup. When we go back to Sri Lanka, we will make sure we get to stay with Richard again. He’s a great guy.

Enjoyed my stay with Richard. He was a fantastic host and an absolutely lovely human being who went out of his way to make my stay enjoyable. I actually wanted to stay longer but he was booked out. Spectacular view and just a short walk from the busy town centre.

Although we couldn’t stay at Richards as it was booked out, we went there for a cooking class. Richard and his wife taught us to cook a proper rice and curry in a very local and traditional way. It was a very authentic and friendly experience. The food was absolutely delicious. And the price was very reasonable. It was one of the highlights of our trip! Moreover, Richard arranged a transportation for us the next day to Our next destination.
I fully recommend the place not just for cooking class, but also for staying as it’s right in the center of everything, has an amazing view and very clean rooms.

Richard is like your local friend. He is so helpful and fair. He really knows how to run a hospitality business. The location of his guesthouse is perfect to explore Ella while staying in a quite sidestreet. The views from his terrace are breathtaking.
We did not stay in the room but we took a cooking class with Richard and his wife. They showed us how to make traditional rice and curry, homemade coconut milk and a soup. The whole evening was such a great experience and definitely a highlight of our stay in Ella. Richard also organized a very reliable transportation for us. You will enjoy hanging out with him.

This man is awsome. We made a friend during our 2 night stay with him. We learned traditional cooking, and a few words, he helped us with transfers and also helped us with a safari in Udawalawe. We recomend this homestay for sure!

While we unfortunately didn’t know about Richards place before booking our accommodation for Ella, we had the pleasure of Richard and his friend taking us to Udawalawa and then Mirissa. What can I say! Richard is the nicest man we met in Sri Lanka. He told us all about his place and his background of 20+ years in hospitality. Richard provided us with in-depth knowledge about Sri Lanka during our journey which was fantastic. I honestly can say that I am so disappointed we wernt able to stay with Richard in Ella as I have no doubt he would be the perfect host. I will be recommending Richard’s place to all my Irish friends who will visit Ella in the future. A true gentleman!

Richard and his family are very very nice people who will welcome you with open arms and a big smile to their home. Thex can organize everything you want for you and for very very reasonable prices! If you stay with him also don't miss the cooking class, we had one of the best curries when we made one with him and his wife and now we can recreate it at home. The rooms are basic but clean and moscito net and hairdryer are provided.
