River Splendor Homestay and waterfall reviews
24Surely one of our best stay in Sri Lanka and we would have love to Stay a bit longer than 2 nights. Room is very nice, the owners are very welcoming and the place is just magical as it is stuck to a nice waterfall where you can swim. The owner can rent his scooter which avoid useless research and to tell the truth, we did the cooking class for rice and curry and it was form fat the best we had in 1 month in Sri Lanka thanks a lot and all the best
We have enjoyed our stay. Cooking with champi was really great and so delicious. Her husband Shan took us on a day trip, it was really nice too. It was really nice to get an insight into Sri Lankan family life, we learned so much, thanks again
We stayed an entire week and our stay was splendid. This place is a bit further from Ella town yet easily accessible by frequent buses (30 rupees per way) which we enjoyed because it’s closer to nature and away from the hustle and bustle of the actual town itself. Bus ride takes only 7 minutes. Where else could you find a little waterfall just at your house compound? After a hike, we enjoyed cooling down in the cold water at the waterfall area, and a little fish spa (they nibble at your legs if you stay still). At the premises, we saw wildlife such as squirrels, monkeys and birds. Ravana waterfall nearby is also easily doable by taking a bus in the direction opposite of town which only costs 50 rupees per way. Champi and family had been extraordinarily hospitable with their service and information provided. Breakfast was included in the room price and portion was huge, we had to ask to skip the toast because we couldn’t finish all the food given. What we really loved was also the flexibility in breakfast timing, we could do a hike at Ella Rock and Little Adan’s peak / 9 arches bridge in the early mornings and come back for brunch (around 11am-12pm). We also had several dinners (Sri Lankan style - rice and various curries) with them whenever we were lazy to head to town for food was also amazing and fairly priced. You could also do cooking class with her, we saw a few families doing it together (parents & young children) during our stay. We can definitely recommend this place.
This was our third stay at River Splendor, a home away from home for us Champi and Shaan are incredible hosts, who make you feel welcome and will go out of their way to help you. The breakfast included is also delicious and we highly recommend the cooking class!
Location was abit away from the town in a scenic location. The breakfast consisted of a sri lankan one.delicious and presented delightly.
Food - 11/10
Rooms - Cleanliness 10/10
highly recommended place for families, friends and couples. Resort owners are sooo friendly and flexible.
THANK YOU Champi We had a wonderful stay: beautiful room, adorable family, excellent (and hearty) breakfast… and a beautiful waterfall in the garden! Amazing. Thank you for your kindness and your welcome
We recommend for a pleasant stay close to hiking

My girlfriend and I absolutely loved our stay at River Splendor. It is the perfect balance of hospatality professionalism and homestay authenticity. Shan and Champi are amazing hosts who are caring, helpful and knowledgeable. Also it's location next to the river is so peaceful at night and just close enough to town for quick access to the main strip of restaurants, but far enough to avoid noise and light pollution. I would highly recommend this accommodation.
Best homestay in Sri Lanka
Private waterfalls in the garden
Perfect cookingclasses and special tours.
Good english speaking, friendly family
Amazing people who run this place! Arranged everything I needed for a very good price and even drove me to Udawalawe safari park. Great place to stay and only a 10 minute walk for Ella centre. Walked to Ella Rock, Little Adam’s peak, Ravana zip line and Ravana falls from the B&B.
Champi was an amazing host from start to end, speaking perfect English which helped out throughout the stay, she was very quick to offer many different things to do throughout our 4 night stay in Ella which was much appreciated. Her uncle helped out with tuk tuk journeys in and around Ella for very affordable prices, just 300rs into the town centre. Shan her friend gave an amazing demonstration on the different herbs and spices that they grow on the property before Champi taught us how to make 7 different traditional Sri Lankan curry dishes, of which we could chose the spice level. I can’t thank her whole family enough for the amazing stay, and equally can’t recommend the stay any more to people staying in Ella in the future.
It was so nice staying at Champis and Nalins place. The nature and waterfall is beautiful, the room clean, the cooking class was really good (amaazing food) and they are both kind and lovely people. I can really recommend staying with them!:)
We had a lovely stay at River Splendor Waterfall. The rooms were clean, very quiet and with a beautiful view from the balcony. The owners of the place are a delightful young couple that speak very good English; they were super helpful and friendly - they showed us all the beautiful plants, fruits and spices from their garden and shared with us some of the local ways of making the best out of these spices. We highly recommend staying here if you come to Ella.
Absolute recommendation. Champi and her husband are very nice and helpful hosts. They can help you with organizing trips, give you some advice and they offer amazing cooking class.
Place itself has own waterfall where you can get refreshing shower and water massage at the same time.
Breakfast are very tasty and different every morning.
Very nice experience with the most welcoming and sweet family! Definitley something we can recommend
We had a great time with Champi and her cooking class. It was interesting to learn about the ways of cooking traditional food and it was almost all from Champi's own garden! Delicious food and a nice instructor! A good way to spice up you own curry with some new tips and tricks!
Nicest place with uniqe view and they have a private waterfall which was amazing.you can cook while hearing the sound of the water and curry combination is unforgetable we cooked bannana flower, jack fruit curry, lotus roots, okra, etc.realy yummy when you use their home grown spices and owner will show you the spicy garden.highly recommend this valuble activity those who searching for real sri lankan experience
The cookery class at River Slendour Home Stay is so good! The hosts are the sweetest and the food we cooked was amazing. Try the cookery class if you are in Ella:) I will give my warmest recommendations to this place!
The cooking lesson with Champi was really a great experience. She was totally willing to show us how to cook a real local curry by explaining everything in detail and letting us help her. We cooked seven different kind of currys and all ingriendents were just natural! And at the dinner afterwards we had the best curry on our trip so far. Totally recommendable.
7 types of curry! What a delightful and enjoyable learning experience. In such a great place like Ella and it’s local heritage. It is defiantly the place for a cooking class and with shampi you will learn generations knowledge and secrets about preparing a good healthy meal.
Must try even if you are not staying there as it is a one of a kind experince.
