The Rock Face

This place is in the heart of Ella so everything is within walking distance. We had a good time here, the breakfast was great and for a small fee you can get your laundry done too. The hosts were very friendly as well.
It is a little hard to get up to the hotel as it’s quite steep - but this is Ella after all

First of all it's located up a hill where u have to climb atleast 50 steps up or vehicle road where tuk tuk drivers refuse to go or overcharge. Found many cockroaches in the room. Bathroom full of bugs. Hotel staff said payment only in Sri Lankan rupees when booking says Usd. They then overcharge currency exchange. Breakfast was cold but sufficient. Internet worked like 1998. I was injured climbing the steps during rain and hotel staff just laughed at the situation. This hotel made my holiday a nightmare. Lastly the cancelled my booking even though I paid in full and stayed the entire duration.

My stay at “The Rock Face” hotel was an extremely disappointing experience. The description of the room I booked turned out to be completely misleading. The reality was quite different: a room much smaller than advertised, infested with cockroaches, and a completely different view than promised.

The most disappointing point was the view. Instead of the spectacular view of Ella Rock that I was expecting, I was confronted with a building under construction. One of my windows even overlooked a telephone tower, a total surprise that was nowhere in the pictures when I booked.

What made the situation even more frustrating was that the hotel manager was completely uncooperative when I raised my concerns. She even laughed at my concerns, which is unacceptable for an establishment that claims to offer quality stays.

I can only express my disappointment and frustration regarding this establishment. I expected a pleasant stay as advertised, which unfortunately was not the case.

I would like to point out that other reviews left by other customers make it clear that this was not an isolated incident. I firmly believe that future customers deserve to be properly and transparently informed to make informed decisions when traveling.

I unfortunately do not recommend this establishment and hope that my review will serve to enlighten other travelers on the potential problems they may encounter.

Fantastic accommodation. Clean. Beautiful view. It's a short walk from the centre but it's quiet.
The food was great. The lady was very nice and smiling.
Our car broke down and she helped us arrange service and everything.

Great value for the money, pay a few $ more the rooms with a view and a balcony, it's definitely worth it you can lay in bed listen to the birds sing while looking at the mountains Breakfast was good. Right down the hill was a nice restaurant called Little Restaurant, Ella that had the best Roti, $3 for a huge Avocado burrito. Get takeout and eat while enjoying the balcony at The Rock Face

We had an very enjoyable stay at The Rock Face. Our room was clean and comfortable and had great views across to Ella Rock and Little Adam's Peak. The owner and her family/staff were very pleasant. A short but steep walk gets you straight into the main road with its many great value, delicious restaurants. We initially booked for two nights but enjoyed Ella so much that we extended by another four days. A train strike caused a change to our plan which meant that we then had to leave earlier than anticipated. The owner accommodated this new change without any problem. Definitely recommended.

Had a wonderful 5 day stay here with my family. The location is conveniently almost right at the Ella central area but on a hill that keeps it away from all the hustle and bustle. A bit of a steep climb but that is one of the charms of Ella. Place is run by a family who are very warm and welcoming. They genuinely go the extra mile to make your stay special. Rooms have all the basic facilities and are very clean. Absolute value for money.

The owners of this place really make it special. We stayed 5 days here and were served great breakfasts, they loaned us a bike and I even got an authentic Sri Lankan cooking lesson. They also arranged onward travel to my next destination.

A home away from home experience like no other. With an exquisite view of Ella Rock and being in comfortable proximity to Ella Town and Ella train station, this is an absolute steal for what you're willing to spend.

The owner is one of the most pleasant and helpful people I've come across in my travels. She made sure we were very well accommodated and made sure we had a wonderful stay. The rooms were very spacious with all required amenities, plenty of space to move around and a common area with a splendid view of Ella Town. If visiting Ella this is an absolute bargain for what it's worth. Cheers

Even though the room is neat, the condition of the water level and the range of hot water is very worst. The hotel owner is very irritative and less cooperative. Due to the cool climate in Ella, the hot water is much needed one. The hotel owner took the control of the water range and provided us false statements. Because of this, our valuable time has stucked. We rent two bikes form them and one of the bike's condition was worst than ever. It only works till 20km per hour. It's in a bad condition which is not suitable to ride on mountain roads, even the breaks didn't worked properly. The owner is not ready to accept her side mistakes and didn't coperative to negotiate the final amount.

Be careful with these kind of tricky people. This is the worst room we ever had.

We had the room on the top corner so direct view on Adam's peek and Ella rock. Amazing mornings with that view. The lady running the hotel is extremely nice Room is okay for the value

Very clean and tidy rooms for very reasonable price. Good hospitality from the lady owner. Views from balcony also superb. Hot water available. I'm giving 5 starts for their service. Very close to the main road and public transportation.

Very nice home stay at Ella. Situated quite high up with the view of little adams peak and Ella rock. The host Asoka is very friendly and made sure we were the most comfortable. She also made breakfasts available at the time convenient for us. Only con is you have to climb up really high to get here. Although tuk tuks and taxis can go up. Definitely recommend.
