Café Ceylon reviews
36 Beautiful space, delicious food, warm and welcoming owners.
They have fun community events like markets and movie nights.
Good WiFi makes it a great spot to chill or work.
Highly recommend the prawn dumplings.
I came to cafe Ceylon for a movie night near Christmas where they screened “the holiday”… the vibe was amazing and made me feel like I was hanging with friends watching a film. I ate the dumplings and the pumpkin soup and the soup was so good I ordered a second one. Service was super friendly and fast. I highly recommend going if you are in Ahangama.
We celebrated New Year's Eve, the food was tasty, the only available red wine was not so good, the service was fine. The atmosphere was great though.
Went for Movie Night and dinner - had a lovely evening - The Lamb Shawarma and the fish and Chips were delicious. The Banana flamed with arrack and hakuru that was recommended was out of this world tasty. Will definitely be back for more of that.
The service was poor, the food had no flavor, and was one of the dirtiest food preparation I have ever seen. Does not fulfill any consumer need, do not try
The cafe was put up using the stolen money from Sri Lankan poor people. Don't go this cafe, you'll get cursed too. Such a bad place.
Very nice atmosphere, good coffee, but the food was so so, overall tasty but expensive I felt.excellent service and hospitality
What a vibe this place has! Community and co-working space with a fabulous kitchen and stylish designs! You must not miss this place when around Kabalana beach, tasty food, the best espresso in sri lanka (coffee lovers would understand the struggle of having a good coffee here) and a nice design shop in the garden too! Simply love!
Despite the mixed reviews here, I really wanted to like this place. We passed it a few times while staying in Ahangama and noticed the grounds are really beautiful (big lawn, terrace, elegant / chic design and decoration). So, we went for an early dinner around 17: 30. It was nice that we could play with a ball on the lawn with our toddler after we ordered. Also, we asked for a baby chair and they said it was broken, despite my seeing it in the lunch part of the restaurant walking in (looking not broken). I mentioned this and then they went and got it and said “fixed”. When we ordered I remember noticing the prices were quite high but figured it was because of the beautiful environment, good quality food and big portions. I was wrong (besides the beautiful setting). The fish and chips were equivalent to two small chicken fingers and tasted like they were fried and re-fried a few times over the past few days (Ie not fresh at all). The fries were soo salty and over-fried. The chicken wings came with a “potato spiral” which were actually the hardest potato chips (crisps) I’ve ever had in my life. My partner almost broke his tooth on them. My partners shawarma was OK. Good flavoring, decent amount of meat but otherwise nothing special. The brownie we finished with was very good. Overall, I give this place 3 starts instead of 1 because of the beautiful setting and good dessert. Otherwise, I would say in terms of food quality and portions, it is extremely overpriced.
I went to Cafe Ceylon as this place was open during the power cut tonight. It was beautifully lightened and the place and entourage looks great!
Therefore my expectation were high, and also when I got the menu card, I saw that the pricing is upscale.
I really was looking forward to good fresh fish with home made fries.
On arrival I tasted the first chips and it was completely cold. I informed the waiter about it and he sent it back to the kitchen.
As my table was near the kitchen, I could see that the chef was just throwing the chips and fish back in to the fryer, instead of making a fresh new plate.
When it came back, it was of course double fried, and the fish wasn't more than "nuggets" and tasted like ready made fish fingers.
In such a place I would have expected, home made fries, with freshly fish, battered and with lots of love of the chef.
Not this time, the "love" wasn't put into it, and the deep fryer did it's work.
I think a missed opportunity for a place like this, with such a nice ambience to neglect the attention to detail of simple food.
A friend invite me over for a drink, I end up in a imperial Court with a coffee shop, a co-working space, a restaurant, a bar and with Britta and her daughter to welcome you as one of their family! I love so much to chill put after surfing and Live music was on with Angelo! Maybe one of the best place in Sri Lanka
In my opinion, the most delicious cafe in Ahangama. Shrimp dumplings are amazing here, and for dessert, the best brownie in the world. Thank you chefs!
This is terrible service. I arrived when the tables were full. They asked to wait for a table to be free. I'm waiting, but other people after me are already at the table
We love it here! It’s our favourite place in Ahangama and the food and coffee are all so so delicious!
Definitely a must visit when travelling through the South of Sri Lanka!
Also they have an amazing market once a month! Check it out!
Love everything about Cafe Ceylon and have been coming here for years. Great food, super friendly owners & staff and a drop dead gorgeous location.
Terrible place. We’ve been to tropical countries many times but this was insane. We spent there 1,5 week and we’ve seen 15 huge cockroaches. Dirty rooms (especially mattresses), poor wi-fi, noise from trains and the street is overwhelming. Food in restaurant is pretty ok, coffee in cafe is really nice.
Amazing restaurant and café! We stayed in the Ahangama area for two weeks and ended up eating at Cafe Ceylon 3 times because we loved it so much. The atmosphere is great and the space is really cute! There is a big restaurant area for nighttime, a cute outdoor cafe for lunch and a nice little shop with things from local craftsmen. It’s all in one big green courtyard. The food is great - for lunch I would recommend the green curry tofu bowl! For dinner I would recommend the vegetarian burger. And you have to try the Arrack Sour! It’s sooo good! Highly recommend this place!
Good big territory and pretty laid back place with nice coffee. Recommend for those who want to chill out.
Horrible experience we waited over 2 hours
Most of the menu wasn't available.the food wasn't worth the wait. Anyway, if you don't want to waste your day and wait for the food don't go there.
