Chami and his staff on a scale of 1 to 10 are beyond, it's the second year I've been back here and it's like staying at home

I spent two weeks in Sri Lanka in several locations and this is the best hostel I’ve stayed in. I really appreciate the flexibility with check in check out times and breakfast time. Food was delicious and we had big portions. The bar, the atmosphere and the employees were great as well!

Loved dining at Chamis. We stumbled across the restaurant one night and went back every morning for breakfast until we flew home. Chamis always welcomed us warmly and often showed kindness and gratitude by giving us more food than we ordered to share his culture with us. The treetop is wonderful to sit in, it’s close to town but you feel a million miles away as it’s quiet and comfortable. Thanks Chamis and his staff!

Best restaurant and place to stay if you are looking for a friendly social atmosphere and very tasty food. I ate here breakfast, lunch and dinner and loved it each time. Chami and his staff are doing a great job to make you happy and satisfied.

Chamis place is amazing and perfectly located in town, very close to everything but still feels in nature and a bit farther from the noise
The food is amazing and cheap! Every night everyone sits together for beer music and drinks

Chami is one of the nicest people and his entire staff are funny welcoming and super nice!

There's also good vegan options and awareness and their breakfasts are too big to finish ️

Love the owner Chami, cheerful and extremely helpful guy. The restaurant was top notch and met a lot of travellers there. Room facilities were also good.

Almost everything was great but the studio room (Kabana room) at the top upstairs doesn't have an attached bathroom. It has an open bathroom which is kinda not comfy for a girl imo.

Also the first impression at the front desk wasn't that much good for us (locals) but this is only from a specific guy works there. Otherwise the owner is very friendly.

The place was very nice and clean. Beautiful natural serene. The people were very friendly and helpful. The cabana experience was fascinating. It was a real cabana experience like we got to live in jungle. The place was very clean and neat and quiet. Safe and peaceful place.

An amazing gem with a great location 200m from Hikkaduwa beach. Chami is an awesome host who will make sure you feel at home. The staff are helpful and friendly, the facilities are well-equipped and totally unique, and for you tech bugs the wifi is very fast. Chami also owns a cafe nearer to the station with excellent food for a reasonable price. Stay here while in Hikkaduwa and you won't regret it.

This is a great place to stay while you are in hikkaduwa. It is very near to the town. The owner is very friendly and supportive over any of your requirements. He can arrange you boat trips, lagoon safari and other things. The place if good for a weekend hideout as well as for a group party at his beautiful restaurant at the front of the guest house. The rooms are available in cabana type which gives you a peaceful atmosphere. Chami owns a small cafe in hikkaduwa Town which serves great sri lankan style food. Cheers

Great place, comfy with charm. I got the treehouse bungalow and i almost felt like I was sleeping in nature, without the mosquitos! Nice rooms and access to a great clean kitchen

A close walk to the beach and a 15 min walk to turtle beach.most afternoons the sea turtles show up!

I have been staying at Chami's several times and was always amazed by the great and chill atmosphere, lovely and welcoming staff and interesting other travellers I met there. They have different rooms to offer, all in a green, jungle-like environment, very clean and the breakfast is authentically Sri Lankan and delicious- Chami is a relaxed, funny and charismatic guy who will always try to help you out, no matter which problems you might have. His place really felt like home in Hikkaduwa and I recommend it to anyone looking for accomodation around there. They also offer very good and cheap dinner (variety of dishes), definitely try it out as well!

I spent 8 days total at Chami's place. I came back and always stayed longer than I expected because this place just feels like home. Amazing vibes, friendly staff, awesome breakfast and all the food in the restaurant, very clean place, beautiful dorms, comfortable beds, location close to the beach, bus and railway station. I hope I will have a chance to come back some day.

One star is fine due to the fact that the food itself was good.

About weeks of traveling through entire Sri Lanka without any problems, eating at Chamis Place was a disaster.

First of all the level of mosquitos was enormous. However, acceptable as this is Mother Nature.
What in contrary is unacceptable is the way the people treated this circumstance.
It took about 30 minutes and about three further enquiries that you had the feeling someone cared about it. A further request resulted in a smoking coil, which helped at least a bit. So far so good.

In the meantime we were able to order food and we were among two other guests not in a crowded environment. As we received our meals we realized that it wasn’t the food we ordered. We are still asking ourselves what the guy had noted himself, as both meals were far away from the initial order. As we consulted the waiter, he immediately accused us that we received the food we ordered and it’s OUR fault.
As this was proven to be wrong as he was replying our “good choice” for the calamaris while taking our orders and there was NO single calamari on the table, we insisted to receive the food we ordered. After receiving some adaptions to the food, but the mosquitos were still doing their job, we decided to eat the meals as they were.

The real disaster started then by asking for the bill. The amounts on the bill were higher than the ones we have ordered. So we had to complain again. As the waiter itself was helpless he called for his boss, who emerged promptly. However with this level of aggressiveness and uncontrolled manner we both haven’t dealt in a while. Without the smallest willingness to understand about the case, he screamed at us etc, etc… As we were still in the mode to inform him about the real facts he was getting more furious, screamed around in his restaurant and accusing us that it’s all about our fault. He in contrast is not doing any mistakes. Surely nobody in this world is making any mistakes.
In the end he was in a huff and requested us to only pay for the drinks. We weren’t fine with it as we also received some food and we wanted to make up for it. Still screaming at us we decided to leave the place with paying some amount higher than the drinks.

About one minute away by feet he followed up with his scooter, stopping us. As this was even not enough he again shouted at us openly on the street by telling us, what we are supposed to do and not to do within his restaurant. As this was even not enough he insulted us in public by calling us mother f***ers.

What is this? Is this the way Sri Lankans behave? Luckily not!

So if you are in Hikkaduwa and want to enjoy some leisure time, make sure to avoid this place!

We had a great time here at Chami's place. Very clean rooms, great and helpful staff, amazing food. They can provide anything you need ;)
