Guacamaya House

Wasn’t for us. It’s located in the heart of bustling Ahangama and is located over a shop in the main road, so it is noisy from the street and the ocean.
The rooms are basic, tiny but well decorated and has a narrow balcony with sea view. The beds need mosquito nets as we were covered in insect bites, the room had no shelves or adequate storage so we lived out of our luggage. There weren’t any hooks or shelves In the bathroom so no place for toiletries either. We booked with them as we needed a kitchen but it was very tiny, didn’t have enough basic implements and not so pleasant to use. We need to do a little work from there but their really wasn’t space for that and the internet even with our cellphones was patchy.

We were supposed to stay a month but let them know the day we arrived that we didn’t like it, they insisted we should pay for the entire stay but eventually we had to pay 75% (most places in Sri Lanka are more flexible especially if you don’t like the place) we lasted a week. I would suggest visiting before committing to stay here for a lengthy period.

There is access to the sea via a narrow alley and past some living quarters down some reasonably steep rocks. There is a bit of a beach at low tide but at high tide the waves crash right up to the rocks.
If you’re going to Ahangama to surf this isn’t a great place to be based unless you’ve somewhere else to stash your boards and get changed. It’s not ok to walk around Ahangama town in surf/swimwear unless you want to offend the locals.

We're very happy. The place is incredible, the room is right above the sea, you wake up to the sound of the waves. You can enjoy the sunset from your private terrace even from your bed! The owners are lovely and have helped us with everything and recommended interesting places around. We just feel happy and this is another way to say thank you!
