Kanneliya Conservation Center

It was an amazing hands-on education. We saw a lot of flora and fauna that we hadn't seen before.

The guide we had, Dilrukshi, was very patient with us and answered all our questions.

There are different trails one could take. We took the trail to the bat cave, the giant Navoda Tree and the Anagi watuna ella waterfall. This was roughly 10kms up and down. The ticket is priced depending on the trail you take.
A little distance going down to the waterfall and the Navoda tree, was a bit tricky.

It's a shame that all the larger trees other than this Navoda tree were cut down.

We saw only a spider and one poisonous snake on our trek, even though there were many signs of wild boar.

There were bunches of rws poisonous grapes, pitcher plants and other fauna and flora one finds in rain forests.

Kanneliya is a rain forest in sri lanka and it is a prat of the biggest rain forest Sinharaja. To visit the kanneliya you have to buy tickets which is different price for locals and foreigners. Have best rain forest atmosphere with various of animals including some venomous snakes in sri lanka. Also have different kind of plantations and high number of waterfalls. You must visit this place in your life time.

Morning is ideal to visit to forest. High diversity of flora and low diversity to fauna side. Several roots are available and longest root takes around 6 hours and short root can be completed around 1.5 hours.
Ticket has to be obtained and guide's assistant (has to pay separately) is a compulsory to visit place. Can get a good bath from water steam and water is bit cold in evening.
Forest plant nursery available and can purchase some forest plants. Some books also available to purchase on this location.
Parking is available.

Good place for Hiking, and to see the Natural beauty.
Can select the route on preference, it can be hiking, or just a walk to see around and water falls. Natural bathing available.
Hiking will take more than 3 hours and can go to a view point which is amazing.
Leaches are there on the Hiking route, and there is a special soap for that in the canteen near the ticketing counter.
There will be a guide person provided by the forest department.
Please make sure not to throw garbage, and not to kill animals and destroy plants, pick flowers or try to carry plants with you.

We went there with our KDS friends and families. Sri Lankas one of tropical rain forest located in Galle district. You can easily travel with Galle expressway and exit from Baddegama interchange and straight to Udugama via Nagoda. So many varieties of native animal and plant species.

Great visiting location for travellers. U will hv an experience with Nature.
The staff from Forest Department is very helpful.
Invite everyone to visit and see the place. Do not bring Polithin.

It has large number of synthetic plants special for sri lanka. U can see waterfalls and small water flows on here. We cant see very old giant trees. Most of them are about 30 yrs old. If u want to get the full day package (6 hours) its better to go there before 8 a.m. Nice place to visit for forest lovers.

Kanneliya Forest Reserve located in the Galle district is the largest of the KDN, or Kanneliya-Dediyagala-Nakiyadeniya, forest complex. Kanneliya is regarded as one of the most biologically diverse areas in the country (as well as in the world). The bio-diversity of Kanneliya is considered richer, even compared to the world heritage rain forest “sinharaja”. Most of Kanneliya today is a forest that had recovered from selective logging that had happened in1970s. The water flows in the forest are now recovering with a numerous numbers of streams adding life to the diverse vegetation and some what hilly landscape. These streams create several beautiful cascades in side the forest. They also provide ideal opportunities for nice cool dip in some of the purest streams in the whole world!

මෙහ්දි ඔබට තනිව ගමන් කල නොහැකි අතර ඒ සදහා අපට එම ස්ථානයේ ඇති පරිසර කලමනාකරණ කාර්යාලය මගින් ලබා දෙනු ලබන මාර්ගොපදේශකයෙක් සමග ගමන් කල යුතු අතර, කිසිදු අයුරකින් පොලිතින්, ප්ලාස්ටික් ආදිය කැලය තුලට ගෙන යා නොහැක.

Experience the feeling of walking in a tropical rain forest.
Located in Galle & Kanneliya-Dediyagala-Nakiyadeniya. Floristically richest areas than Sinharaja. Beautiful nature. Please follow the guid's instruction and you will surprisingly will enjoy the view and climate.
Carry a umbrella or raincoat, you may get rain fall inside the forest.

Kanneliya forest very Rich in biodiversity.some species you can't find in any other place. Best for bird watching, Butterfly and you can watch few endemic Fresh water fish species in a crystal clear shallow waters. Just 40-50min from Pinnaduwa exist. You can come from Baddegama exit too.they have few trails.you can chose one of them but You can't enter without a guide. They have well experienced guides.

If you are a nature lover, this is a place you must visit. Kanneliya is one of the bio diversity hot-spots in Sri Lanka, where you can observe lots of indigenous plants as well. Environment is very calm and quiet and you can enjoy the sound of nature. And there are 3 beautiful waterfalls in side the forest as well. A great place to a family trip.

You cans ask their help to explore more. Lots of things to see. Good place. Taking care is much needed.

Good place to spend a night at the edge of a cool forest. This place can be booked at the Forest department Battaramulla for a cheap price.

Place has very high bio diversity density. Good for studies. There are several rare plants only grows there. You can also bath there.

Can visit sinharaja forest from here.have to walk long distances but its very much worth it.entrance is beautiful you can even bathe and swim and go.

Best place to see herbal plants, endemic plants.if you came early morning you can go to 'kambale kanda' peak or 'narangas ella' falls.
