Madol Duva (Madol Island)

Madoldoowa is small island in koggala. Famous sinhala novel called madol doowa is based on this.

It takes you back into the famous novel by author Mr. Martin Wickramasinghe You can’t help but imagine the two fictional characters Jinna and Upali. Don’t forget to enjoy a delicious glass of kirala juice which this wonderful island has to offer. Its such a treat in the hot weather.

Madol duwa is a very small island which is located inside the Koggala lake. In order to travel to Madol duwa, you need to use a boat and it's a roughly half an hour tour.

This island became so famous because of the fictional novel written by the Martin Wickramasinhe, arguably the greatest author in 20th century in Sri Lanka. He was born in Koggala area. Story has developed around two characters, Upali and his friend. After they committed a punishable offence they hid in this deserted island. Then their struggle to adopt to new life is explained in the novel.

However this is very small island. You can explore this island within 20-30 minutes. Travelling is the more concern. If it's rainy day or windy day it's better to not to go there. Because high wind force can overturn your boat. Otherwise, if weather is perfect, it would be a nice ride.

Besides from the historical significance of the place, there's not much to see other than the vegetation. The boat service is unsafe and a money grab.

A small island in Koggala lake. Nothing to see special things in this island. Don't waste your money to boat ride.

Good place to visit if you're near in Galle town. You can get the best out of this experience if you read the Madol Duwa book. There's are two boat services which are Rs. 1500 (45 min boat ride) and Rs. 3000 (120 min boat ride).

We have selected the long boat ride which took us to several small islands including madol duwa. Nothing much to watch there but the island is really beautiful and quite.

This place situated on koggala the island at koggala lake. Nice place to visit and relax. You can get boat tour for this place and you can get boat tour as you wish either only for madolduwa or other side in koggala lake. There are separate payments. You can walk around the island and nice view from the surrounding island and biodiversity is good. Good service from boat riders and cooperative. Road is narrow which entering to boat parking. But even large bus also can go in this road safely.

Island is at the middle of the river. Better to take someone who had been there before. Easy to get lost in side the island. Not much to see. Overall, okay place to visit as a tour destination.

My native place is koggala. Its a brilliant village you.should visit. We have to access the island using a bort. During this boat tour you can visit cinnamon island and also fish massage

Its small island in the ging gaga (river). Should go by the boat and cost about 7000/= (lkr) for full tour.just few things you will see on that island. But another few islands you can visit on the way. Cinoman island is the one of the best. Their are few families are living there and they all are relatives. A fish therapy pool is on a side that gives you a great pleasure for sure.

You can visit here by a boat and walk around the island. Nobody lives here so you can be relax and enjoy the environment. The island situated about 200m far from the main land and there are few other islands too near the madol duwa. You can have a boat ride to visit Madol Duwa for 1000-1500 rupees. You would walk all over the place by one hour. Boat rider will show other 3-4 islands too while riding to main land. But you won't have a chance to get down there.

The island is now mostly distroyed by the visitor throwing away the polyethlene. However if you are taking a tour you can visit the other island which has fish feeling, cinnamon making process etc to add to the adventure.

Very good place for a vacation. We can go to the Island using boats.we can enjoy the beauty of the island.it takes nearly one to two hours to go around the island.
