5Found a very good place for jewellery in Galle Fort. Before I found this place I went to many shops in Galle fort. I brought a nice sapphire ring with diamonds. It was wonderful. Excellent work for fair price. Nice owner and family. It's a pleasure to meet them.
Be aware of extra tax&tourismus costs (upto 28%). Pour Wi-Fi, the entrance is made through the jewellery shop - no extra entrance for the guests. After 10pm you have to ring the bell so the owner let's you in. Owner does not provide a bill. No curtain of small balcony window. Not 7mins but 15-20 mins walk distance to bus &railway stations
Good place to stay on a budget. Centrally located near the fort with ATM close by as no credit card facilities like a lot of SL small businesses.
Rooms are basic with double bed, desk and clothes hanger. Towels and extra sheets provided.
Includes a/c and private bathroom.
Free WiFi was not fast and occasionally dropped out but adequate for YouTube and emails.
Beware the three round pin power points. My international adapter didn't fit. The family loaned me one of theirs for the duration of my stay.
No shower cubicle so water falls on bathroom floor and toilet seat. Helpful tip: So leave lid up when you shower. Soap was provided.
Attached gem shop has a good variety of retail and wholesale gems. Owner is quite helpful and speaks English well.
They made me such a lovely ring and pendant in less than 24 hours. MARVELOUS service, great quality, fair price and very friendly too.
