National Tea Room reviews
33Incredibly cute and authentic place. The owner of a rare soul is a man. I took the curry purely for the experience. It was very spicy, but I knew in advance that it was not for me. I just had to tick the box that I tried it. Such is the experience.
The tea was nice, eggs were good. The sausage is a weird frankfurter style so avoid that. We had a long wait despite being the only people in for food. We ordered juice but got lassi instead. Pancakes were covered in chocolate sauce, strawberry syrup and honey which was way OTT.
Great taste at an affordable price!
Please visit if you come to Galle.
There is cilantro in fried rice, so if you can’t eat it, tell me in advance!
Amazing ambience, good food and a must visit in Fort.
This is not my first time here. The ambience and decor has always been great and upgraded every time I come here. The place is special because this is the oldest tea room in the fort and is currently run by the owner/founder's 3rd generation. The shops deco is vintage with historical memorabilia of galle and Volkswagen (because it's the owners favourite brand)
The food has always tasted good and as i remember it throughout the years. The portions are big but the pocket stays the same size, because the food does not cost much. They have a buch fo short eats, meals and beverage options.
They even have the classic Highland "kal kiri" glass bottle milk and multiple flavoured ice packets.since most people walk inside the galle parking won't be a concern but there is indeed parking near the place.
It was famous for its unique hoppers range. But now they don't serve those hoppers because of the economicsl situation in the country.
Delicious food at a reasonable price! And the family who owns the place are very sweet and provide excellent service! We ate breakfast (string hoppers and dal, plus a pot of masala tea) here and enjoyed it so much we came back for dinner (egg kottu and coconut roti with veg curry, plus passionfruit juice and lime soda)! They were also kind enough to make me a veg curry even though the menu only listed fish and chicken. We will definitely be coming back!
A cozy, family run tea room where you can have breakfast and lunch. Lovely people who makes you feel at home immediately. I only had tea, egg roll and a small breakfast but all was delicious and I will definitely go back again, when in Galle. Great quality food for very reasonable prices. Very nice, homey atmosphere.
The oldest shop in Galle fort since 1932. If you love antiques (Especially if you are an old bike and car fan) you should visit this place. They are waiting to share their legacy with you. Do not forget to try their authentic foods.highly recommended food mart with historical value, if you are roaming in Galle fort.
Food is tasty.
The way that the lady treated is unprofessional. She talked me dont care.
Once the food was served she showed us the spoons and forks and she meant me to eat by using them since this shop is near the road all the spoons and folks are fully covered with dust.it is required for a restaurant to be clean neat and tidy.
Just very friendly and excellent.
We liked it very much to sit, eat and talk there, specialy very early in the morning after the fort-walk.
Cutest and by far cheapest restaurant in Fort. We enjoyed a very good breakfast served by very friendly people. Loved the interior.
It's the oldest café in Galle and I really liked the atmosphere and decoration. The owner is authentic and I really liked his hospitality and friendliness. He will help you with anything you need.
Lovely place, we enjoyed a curry and rice as well as a fruit juice and lime tea! Everything was very nice:)
One of the best places we’ve been in Sri Lanka! Walked in for lunch and enjoyed it so much we came back for dinner. The food is great, and what makes it even better is the atmosphere and the wonderful family. We felt right at home, as if we were staying in their living room. The girls were doing their schoolwork and the cat was sitting next to us. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back!
It’s quaint, small but an average restaurant. However what I loved about this place was the number of photographs this place had of a variety of things. It really made it worth stopping over for a cup of tea. Oh, and it’s one of the few places that serves Dosa but it’s thicker than the average Indian style.
Amazing and delicious food! And not overprized!
The Sri Lanka dishes are really cheap and for a smoothie bowl it is 800 roepies, which is fair. The smoothie bowls are well topped, its worth the price and way better than expected.
Highly recommended!
Friendly service. Good ride and curry, excellent low price. Owner even gave a free sweet at the end! Recommended.
Legendary place in Galle. Host is very friendly and warm. Reasonable priced milk and black teas. Try their muffins
We totally loved this small restaurant / Tea Rooms. This place is the oldest in Galle Fort and founded in 1932. The second generation is running the restaurant. Here you'll find local food and different coffees and teas. They also offer pastries and delicious lunch. We dined at this place for several times and we always asked the owner what to eat today. We had the chance to experience new culinaristic journey to food culture of Sri Lanka! The price range is moderate/cheap. At this small and lovely place the locals and tourists enjoy themselves. It has lovely "rustic" decoration, heartful owner-family and specially good food!
In addition you can rent bikes and book a guide for a tour at the fort.
This is the oldest restaurant in Galle Fort started in 1932. I love the friendly owners of the restaurant.
Most of the items in this restaurant are home made. I love the muffins, I had two. You must try it when you visit this place next time.
The artifacts in the restaurant are items used by the owners in the past and every item has their own story.
I highly recommend this place for a cup of tea.
