Under NO circumstances should anyone use this agency for travel or for accommodation. Chatura is an extremely dangerous man. I rented a house for 2 months from his agency.
Upon renting the house he asked me to take a picture of the electricity meter, and we both agreed that I would pay the bill at the end of my two month stay. No problem right? Wrong. Today was such a terrible experience with him, he came to the house yelling at me to give him money. He kept screaming and swearing at me to give him money for the electricity bill which I had no problem doing. There was never any intention on my part to not pay it. It was only 13,500 (so he says) rupees for 2 months.
This man stood in the driveway as I tried to explain to him the ATM situation, I literally saw the Devil appear in this mans eyes as he was having none of it. He refused to hear anything I said, every time I tried to speak he would cut me off, use profanity and begin screaming. I was so terrified as was my little boy. He wouldn’t let me leave the house, he screamed at me calling me all kinds of names, he made my 4 year old child cry and scared my little guy. We were both shaking! I thought he was going to hit me many times through out this encounter. He viciously grabbed my bags out of the tuk tuk as my son was sitting right near. I asked him repeatedly to calm down he was scaring both my son and I. His response was I don’t bleeping care about you or your son, you bleeping bleep. Over and over he kept swearing at me.
Now, I have no problem taking responsibility for anything that I’ve done but in this case there was nothing. I hadn’t seen him in over 2 weeks there was nothing to warrant this kind of behavior. I explained to him the night before over the phone the time of check out, the electricity bill would be paid and the keys to the house returned to him. I thought everything was fine and agreed upon. It wasn’t and today he made that clear because in a split second he had become a belligerent monster. Completely unreasonable and down right terrifying.
I tried multiple times to be the voice of reason and calm the situation down but he wouldn’t stop screaming at me, swearing at me for an hour. He got right up in my face and spit venom at me while my son was right there beside me. At one point when I asked him to follow me to the ATM and electrical company to make sure he wasn’t scamming me he went to the front gate and barracaded me and my 4 year old son in the property and wouldn’t allow us to leave! In my country of Canada that is a criminal offense and you can be prosecuted for such a crime.
I tried to hop over the fence to get out of the yard but was unable to.
I’m not sure what part of I need to go to the ATM to get the money to pay the bill this guy didn’t understand but multiple attempts were made and yet every time he screamed go and get my money but wouldn’t let me leave the property!
THIS MAN IS THE DEVIL, and has serious passive aggressive issues. He has absolutely NO RESPECT FOR WOMEN OR CHILDREN. He has no right treating anyone this way. STAY AWAY from New Berlin tours, especially the man chatura, he has a crooked eye and wears glasses.he is an extremely dangerous man and can flip a switch within a second. YOU ARE NOT SAFE.
After all this happened I was informed by many community members about him. He has a bad reputation for scamming people. They say I’m not the first person this happened to and I won’t be the last. He’s Extremely greedy and money hungry. They say he inflates the prices especially on his tours to Russians 3-4x the price and scams people out of money constantly. He is not liked by many people In Hikkaduwa. Save yourself the trouble and go someplace else where you are appreciated because he will make you feel disposable. There are loads of other tour guide places that will be happy to serve you. Chatura has an agenda. He pretends to be your friend all the while is thinking how he can scam you.
