OYO 490 Shangrela Beach Resort

Rooms need to be renovated. Beach front is next to a harbor. Food is expensive compared to other places nearby.

Wonderful place to relax for a while. Nice swimming pool with a beautiful view of the beach. Several beaches within walking distance. The team is very friendly and helpful; the gentlemen work hard and we are grateful to them.
The deluxe room was pleasant but basic - I can think of several areas for improvement.
We thought the food was bad. The Kottu, noodles and wrap we ate here were not tasty and breakfast took 50 minutes and was not special. Fortunately, you can buy plenty of food nearby. It is near the center with bakery and cafes. Contrary to what their menus, advertisements and wall decor suggested, they do not serve spirits/cocktails.

Everything is good. This place has nice beach view. Rooms are clean. But need some renovations. Service is really good. Overall good place to spend weekend.

The staff are great and are more than happy to help out. However the rooms are pretty poor and need upgrading. I understand covid and no tourists but a lick of paint would go far. Excellent views from hotel of beach also no WiFi in rooms

Great location with a very nice swimming pool. The food was delicious and varied. The staff is the best, super friendly and attentive.

The hotel is poorly maintained. Unlike in the photographs posted on Social Media, the buildings and rooms are not well maintained and they need a touch of renovation. However the food was delicious. Their 14 inch pizza is a must try. Nice place to spend the vacations with your family and loved ones.

Place is super convenient to find and very much close by to the Ambalangoda town. Staff was super friendly. Close to the beach and can be reached whenever we needed to. Foods are delicious and fresh!

I'll not recommend this place unless this is a very last resort. I don't even know how they got four-star reviews. I'd give it zero stars if I could. The hotel is extremely dirty and poorly managed. The hotel seriously needs to improve its general cleanliness. The floors are very dirty. But the rooms are clean. I appreciate that.

The other thing is that the hotel was run-down in a horrible part of town. Villagers were loud, noisy, and used foul language. It's unsafe for everyone. Especially girls don't plan to stay in an area like this. Also, vehicles are unsafe in this area. I couldn't even sleep there without being safe.

They didn't have a beach area. The beach photos on the booking are fake. It's dirty and full of drunk villagers.

The front desk guys are indifferent. Not worth the price. Photos, beaches, reviews—everything fake on the website.worst hospitality.

The place is disgusting. I would strongly recommend booking elsewhere and saving money.

Beautiful place to stay. The location is incredible, it's well maintained and clean with a nice pool and delicious food. The staff is super friendly. I highly recommend it!

The food is tasty. Environment is calm. Not a crowded place. But a terrible incident happened. Poor Security Service. Not satisfied with the security. They should take responsibility for the security. We pay for their services including the security right? Not recommended.

The best place we have been to while 2 months in Sri Lanka. Shangrela and Ambalangoda itself offers real escape from touristy places with stunning beaches, friendly locals and the most amazing stuff you can asked for

We stayed for 2 nights at the Shangrela Beach resort as a rest stop from Colombo Airport. I wish we would've booked any other hotel. These are Hostel vibes for Hotel prices. The staff is unfriendly and always seem to want justification for whatever you ask from them. But good luck finding someone who actually listens! One time it took me half an hour (!) of searching to get a simple bottle of water.
I was asked by management to perform a DJ-set here as I do this on the side, but I was met with the same treatment as the staff working there. Really weird if you're a guest that's just trying to help out. We had an agreement for free drinks for the night, which they then shortened to 3 drinks on the day of the party. When we were leaving we simply forgot a towel, but when asking for it, they told me it's a hotel towel? I could see the towel but still were adamant that it wasn't mine. Only when I took one of their staff to it was I able to take it with me. When forwarding our complaints we were met with doubt and discussions, there was no attempt at all to improve the service they offered. I never gave a single star review before, but I'd say in this case it's justified. I won't be coming back or recommending it.

A very chill place with delicious food, clean rooms and great service at an extremely reasonable price. It is a slightly old building but the rooms and facilities are extremely clean and very well maintained. Would recommend this as an ideal place for a quick getaway with friends and family.

A must visit place in Ambalangoda. All the staff members were extremely efficient, pleasant and helpful, especially Yasith.

The Chilled Out Place is a great spot for a day out with friends or family. The buildings may be a bit old, but they are well-maintained and clean. The pool is perfect for people of all ages - not too deep, but still great for a refreshing dip. The entire environment is clean and welcoming. The beach is just a few steps away, and there's even a small playground for children to enjoy. Staff is friendly and helpful, and the food is excellent. While it may not be a luxurious location, it offers top-notch service for a very reasonable price. Overall, the Chilled Out Place is highly recommended for a relaxing and enjoyable day out.

Very friendly and interesting staff! The rooms are good sized and the location is top. The pool is also very nice and the restaurant faces the sea (not directly on the beach but you still see the sea). Worthy!

It’s a clean small place to chill but definitely not what you expect. The photos are misleading.
The hotel does not have a private beach. The food they serve is a huge rip off for the money you pay. The rooms are clean.
