Sea Waves Restaurant & Cooking Classes reviews
35 Friendly service, good choice of food. Nicely spiced. Medium tasty, local was hot but enjoyable.
Really good value for money.
We came here two nights on the run. The best food we had in Unawatuna.
Tom Yama has never seen such a serve before)
Tasty, filling, cool, good prices, excellent service
Unfortunately, due to the many good reviews, it is now twice as expensive and the service and quality and portions of the food have deteriorated. The location is very remote and the toilets were not clean. Unfortunately it was disappointing.
This is an absolute gem! Best food I’ve had in Sri Lanka. Lovely family vibe. Definitely try the butter (battered) prawns. Exceptional! 10/10.
Great restaurant! Very friendly owners, very tasty dishes! If you're in Unawatuna, be sure to stop by - you'll be full and happy:)
Absolutely delicious food! We had rice and curry, and it included four different local currys. All of them were fantastic. Highly recommend
If you are in or near Galle this is a must do experience. We had such an enjoyable few hours. We made delicious food, we learnt about the cuisine, we had a guided tour of the market and just laughed non stop. It's such a fun thing to do to give you context about what you will be eating throughout your trip round Sri Lanka. It's also incredibly good value. We left full, more knowledge and incredibly happy. Strongly recommend.
Unbelieveable good food for a good price
We had a very good talk with the owner family and it's really impressive what they build there. Thanks for all!
We were looking for a restaurant that cooked authentic Sri Lankan food and we
definitely found it. This was our favourite spot in Unawatuna for dinner. The seafood was cooked to perfection (grilled prawns) and the vegetable curry and prawn curry were extremely tasty! It’s a family owned restaurant and really attentive and friendly service. The restaurant is situated next to the jungle and it’s a beautiful open space overlooking the lush greenery. If there’s one restaurant you visit whilst here- this is it.
What a fantastic experience! Firstly we went to the vegetable Market and picked out the vegetables we would like to use in our curries. Then we came back and made 6 different curries, popadums plus the most perfect rice - the rice came with a tip I will most certainly be using back at home!
Susanthi was super friendly and hospitable and guided us through every step. I am
a fussy eater and loved every single one of the curries which says a lot.
Would 100% recommend anyone to take part in this cooking class
We went there for a cooking class with Susanthi and we cooked fish curry this was amazing! Dish anti and her family are really kind people and the food was delicious. We could decide how spicy we want our curry and she explained very well all the steps of the cooking.
We will come back for sure to eat again at the restaurant.
Don’t miss it!
Beautiful place, great and helpful staff, Fresh and delicious seafood! I truly recommend- one of the best places on this side of coast…. Enjoy!
Sehr gute einheimische Küche. Speziell natürlich die Curry und das Dhal. Die Chefin Susanthi ist mega freundlich, sehr bemüht und gibt auch Kochkurse.
Review of the Restaurant:
Super delicious food, my rice and Curry was awesome. Best I had while traveling Sri Lanka.
The place was very warm and friendly. Food was good and they were open even during curfew.
If you want family vibes and local food go there.
Great quality delicious food. I had grilled tuna with a side of savoury sweet potatoes which were delicious!
This was the best dhal that I have eaten in Sri Lanka! Before the class we have visited the market to buy all ingredients. After all we have eaten everything what we have prepared during the class and we loved it!
Great cooking in the best atmosphere! You can’t miss it!
Susanthi and her family are absolutely lovely! Sea Waves is a must try if you want to experience the best local Sri Lankan curry you ever had. We did the cooking class there which consisted of going to the local fish and vegetable market to pick our food, then we came back to Sea Waves and Susanthi taught us how to cook the most delicious food, definitely a worthwhile experience. We keep returning to this restaurant during our month long stay in this part of Sri Lanka because the food and staff are simply amazing. Food is very reasonably priced - we are backpackers so generally eat local food as much as we can. They have reopened after the New Year so make sure you pay them a visit!
The cooking class at Sea Waves went above and beyond what we expected. We started by taking a tuktuk to the local market to see the vegetables and spices - this is where you can pick exactly what you want to cook later! The class takes place at a beautiful spot in the jungle, and Susanthi then shows you how to make five delicious curries. We learnt how to make coconut milk from scratch, daal, okra, pumpkin and sweet potato curry. It is some of the best food we’ve had in Sri Lanka and an incredible experience!
I can’t recommend sea waves and Susanthi enough. We were taken to the local markets and taught to make five unbelievable curries from scratch. The BEST dhal I’ve ever tasted hands down alongside sweet potato, okra, aubergine, green bean and sweet pumpkin. Susanthi taught us in a really easy, simple way that we will definitely be making them when we are back home. Her family are also really lovely and welcoming. Book here now! One of the best parts of our trip. Thank you!
