Urchin Unawatuna

Building was previously a hostel. The staff tried hard and were very helpful. Negative: the rooms are very spartan. Bed, closet, mini table and chair, that was it. There was nothing in the bathroom apart from a soap dispenser and toilet paper. One bath towel per person and this had to last for three days because the rooms were only cleaned then. Bed linen and towels are yellowed. The bed smells musty. Unfortunately, there is no possibility of getting a safety box. The roof terrace from which you can observe the surrounding nature is positive.
Conclusion: Far too expensive for the standard.

This is a wonderful place where you can hide from the hustle and bustle, like a cozy country cottage, excellent staff, always helpful, everything is clean and quiet. It’s just amazing there, I would love to live there forever, it’s my love

We are on holiday in Sri Lanka for the third week, and decided to change Merissa to Unawatuna. I immediately liked the hotel due to its green, well-groomed grounds, walking distance to the sea and distance from a busy road. The area is looked after, everything is always tidy. There is not a speck of dust in the pool, there are sun loungers, you can swim at night. The rooms are clean, bright and smell nice. Electricity works in your absence (an incredible plus, when it’s +30 outside, you can leave the air conditioner working), for 4 nights, we didn’t see a single lizard or spider.
Breakfast is paid - $5. BUT! They are incredibly tasty, huge portions, and prepared individually for you, at a convenient time! My personal top - Pancakes and French toast. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive! They helped me put money on my phone to extend my internet. There is also wi-fi, a relaxation area on the roof of the hotel, smoking areas, and parking for bikes. I highly recommend the hotel.

Great place for a good price. Very green garden and territory. Clean pool, and also nice management. We recommend it with honesty. Rooms are exactly like on booking.

Brilliant! A very well located place near the beach but once inside the enclosure it is an oasis, absolute tranquility.

Very nice staff. Breakfast was also delicious. Rooms are a bit small, otherwise everything is perfect. You can watch monitor lizards, palm squirrels and monkeys from the hotel.

An absolute gem of a place. So close to the beach and restaurants but quiet and surrounded by nature. Clean, modern rooms, super comfy bed too. Fabulous helpful and kind manager. We spent our last 4 nights here and it was a great choice. Thank you Urchin x

The best place I have ever stayed in Unawatuna!

4 minutes to the beach, but at the same time the silence in the hotel itself (no road noise and beach parties).

There is a recreation area on each floor, on the third floor there is a large terrace this is a separate love you sit on a wooden chair (it was important for me that all the furniture is made of wood, not plastic) and enjoy wildlife (peacocks fly, monkeys in trees and singing birds).

The pool is small but always clean, nice to sunbathe nearby.

All bathroom amenities were available and changed regularly.

I also liked the staff, not intrusive employees, always involved in the improvement of the hotel! All our requests were responded to very promptly, always helped.

I recommend everyone to stay at this place!

The place is fire!) We have been living here since October 20 in absolute solitude as in a villa. Peacocks enter the territory, gibbons and birds are stable on the trees nearby, and of course the cutest chipmunks. The staff is also very friendly. Another plus is the pool, well, the territory itself is very well-groomed. It’s really about 4 minutes to the unawatuna beach, but at the same time, road noise is almost inaudible. Only the sound of the sea and the constant singing of birds during the day)

The terrace with a canopy on the third floor is just an excellent place.

And of course, it should be noted that this is a completely new stylish object.

There is perhaps only one minus of the place - in the object there are smooth concrete floors and stairs everywhere, on which in some places it is very slippery after the rains. Of course, the staff often wipes the floors during the day and in the evening, but still this moment is very important. With children it can be dangerous here in heavy rain.
