4 The most beautiful accommodation we have had so far in Asia with a very, very hospitable family.
About the accommodation:
The room and bathroom are pleasantly large and absolutely clean. The bed was also very, very clean. The mosquito net was flawless. Everything seemed very new and high quality. The smell of the room was very pleasant and reminded me of a 4 star hotel room in Germany.
The room has a jacket and clothes rack and a small shoe rack. There is also a large mirror and a hairdryer. There was also an iron with board outside the room if you wanted to iron your clothes. The room is also equipped with a table where two people could work easily with a laptop. The property's WiFi is very suitable for digital nomads and for online meetings, among other things. The family that hosted us has their own generator, which is why we were not affected by the local power outages.
Two lamps on the wall and a bedside lamp provided the right lighting ambience. The room was bathed in a pleasant, warm light, which was ideal for working or watching a series.
The bathroom is very large, modern, very clean and there are several storage options for toiletries. When it comes to the shower, you can choose between a small shower head and the large “rainforest shower”.
We were able to dry our towels on our own small balcony.
The family that runs the property only rents out a total of 4 rooms, which is why we had a very pleasantly quiet atmosphere throughout our stay. We could also always go to the large balcony to work. This is equipped with large tables and lots of seating options. We had a very nice view of the lake. We were also able to observe the individual animals such as buffaloes, crocodiles and many birds through a pair of binoculars that were available on the balcony. In the evening, the family set up smoke coils to drive away the mosquitoes. So we were able to spend the evening on the large balcony and have a delicious dinner there.
The accommodation is about 6 minutes TukTuk ride from the center. We never had to go into the city - but there is an option.
Family and food:
Every member of the family was extremely hospitable. We were offered a daily cleaning of the room. When we walked along the lake in the evening, the father of the family spontaneously took us 5 minutes in a TukTuk to a place where around 200 flying foxes were hanging in a tree. That was very impressive to watch.
In general, the family always asked if everything fit and fulfilled our wishes. They were very interested in us and also gave us tips about our Sri Lanka trip. While we were working we were able to order any food or coffee we wanted. We were craving cookies one day and the family brought us some from town for dinner. Next to the room there is a refrigerator with enough chilled bottles of water that we were allowed to take.
The food was very tasty. During the two working days we only had the family cook for us. There is a menu where you can choose from different dishes. There are also some vegetarian dishes. The meal costs between $2 and $6 per person. The portions are very large.
Overall, we had a very nice and special experience with this accommodation and the family, so it was difficult for us to say goodbye. We wish we could have stayed longer!
Amazing place! I wish we stayed longer. The family is super friendly, the rooms are clean and nice, the beds very comfortable. The food is amazing! The lake area is beautiful and very nice to take walks around the lake and through the rice fields or go on the yala safari. I hope we come back soon!
The most peaceful place i have being in Tissamaharama, where the homemade food is served and that's what I'm always enjoying there.almost i have stayed for more than 5 times while we were out for our outstation visits. The owner Mr. Gemunu is a very friendly person who's trying give his best outcome to the visitors.the other family members are also friendly and helpful in facilitating and help us on selection of food varieties. I'm recommending this place with 5 s.where you can also ask for the local area travel experience with the owner's three wheeler and the Safari they cordinated for us was amazing.we had incredible time in the Yala jungle with that Safari experience. This is the most heartfelt place I'm always ready to stay.
