Malayan Cafe reviews
27 This place regulary tasty good, friendly good customer s service,
but foods is not like previous tasties. Price is little high but meals are not tasty much.
The spot is located on Grand Bazar Jaffna. If I’m to speak of the food it was good, tasty and reasonable prices as well but if I’m to talk out about the customer service it’s the worst. They just don’t listen to your order well and plus the waiters/servers were so very rude. Other than that the everything is shape. You could jump on and get a quick brunch or a snack. Not much recommend.
Disappointed. I didn't get a chance to dine here, unfortunately as the waitstaff were not eager to accommodate.
It was my first time travelling to Jaffna, and this cafe was on my list of place to dine in, as its mentioned in multiple blogs. I walked quite a distance and was glad to find this antique-ish place, but the indifference of the waitstaff ruined it for me.
I was seated towards the back, where another couple too was seated. There were enough spots. But a waiter asked me to go sit at the front (a couple of tables ahead) because the other waitstaff wouldn't notice/serve me otherwise. I didn't mind shifting, and agreed to move, but the area in the front was full. When I told them that there aren't any empty spots, they just shrugged and left. I sat there for a few more minutes and true to their word, nobody paid any attention, although they walked past me many times and even cleaned the tables around the area, so I didn't have a choice but to leave.
I was only a table away from where they asked me to move to, so it really wouldn't have made a difference to them. They spoke to me, and all I wanted to order was a cup of coffee and a vadai or two, so it wouldn't have been too much trouble. Even as I write this, I'm puzzled as to why they did what they did.
The food is very delicious. The place is not that well maintained. I personally had a language issue when talking with them because most of the staff didn't know English nor sinhala. This is a fully vegetarian restaurant. And one of the best place in jaffna to get a delicious tamil meal. There is no separate car park and is situated in the middle of a busy town

I came here for the third time. Got the best breakfast menu in Jaffna once again. Delicious food and very affordable prices.
Great place for Dine In Jaffna for Traditional foods in area. Clean and hygienic. Friendly Staff with great customer service.
Food want served hot. They served the one cooked at lunch when I visited around sunset. But we can't blame much considering current gas shortage.
Ulundu vadai on the other hand served hot and crispy. So at the moment only that I'd recommend here. Possibility best place in Jaffna to have ulundu vadai served hot all the time.
Typically I'd recommend other items on breakfast only. This goes to all veg outlets span across Jaffna. Because only in breakfast food is fresh and hot. Vadai on the other hand always hot and crispy
This is the best hotel to experience the real Jaffna Tamil Taste! Undoubtedly you can enjoy the best food for the money you spend.
Friendly staff. Nice place. Another beautiful thing is you can see several images of Hindu Gods displayed on the walls, and they worship them before opening the shop.
Never miss this tasty foods cafe when you visot Jaffna!
We went there in the morning for breakfast. They don’t speak English very well but they tried to help us as much as possible. Good and fast service. Food was really good. Good place to try local food.
Be ready to eat with your hands on a banana leaf.
The best jaffna masala dosa. Typically Indian atmosphere. It is located behind the bus stop in the center of jaffna. Highly recommended
Food is ok but please improve the quality of the food such as the dosai wasn’t very fresh and there should be a variety of curries.
Great place for breakfast. Enjoy the local bread variations with curry straight from the bucket on a banana leaf. Prepare to eat with your hands (actually just the right one, but I think they don't mind if you use both). The people don't speak much english but are eager to help. When finished there is a room to toss away your banana leaf with a hand washing station.
Visited Malayan Café for breakfast. We had dosa & idlei which was very fresh and tasty. They serve the food on to the banana leaf which is a nice experience in modern days.
Loved the Jaffna Culture and cuisine.
Enjoyed the delicious Chai with Fresh Cow milk.
One of the best Vegetarian hotel in town.
Will revisit.
Excellent food. Try their ghee paper dosai.
Parking will be a little tight. Best to park on another street and walk there.
A vegetarian restaurant that serves food on a banana leaf. The ulundu vadai and the paper Dosai was some of the best I've ever had. This place is a must visit when is Jaffna. The staff is quite attentive and the owner is very friendly as well
Great taste of South Indian food will surprise you, good staff and quick service must accomplish, don't forgot to drop in at least once
The reason I walked into this place is because I liked the Cafe's handpainted sign. The interior is basic but very charming. The food is delicious and super affordable. After choosing what you want from the little displays of fresh goods, the friendly staff bring them to you on a banana leaf. Then a lady comes around and offer you generous portions of yummy curry and sambol. The whole meal cost me about Rs. 250, which is about $1.35 USD. You DO have to eat with your hands but they have adequate washing stations. I love this cafe and will be going back next time I am in Jaffna.
Good supply services. Variety of local food with acceptable prices. Probably on Tuesday and Friday Lunch time very busy. Specially vada and parotta is tasty.
A name beyond century trusted for traditional vegetarian cuisine. Cosy and budget dine experience with family and friends. Good hospitality and caring staff.
