Sarras Guest House reviews
12 First of all I have to mention that there are 2 buildings in this place. A newly built one and a renovated old one. We stayed at the old one so everything I mention here applies to that part.
There were both good and bad about this place
Goods
- All the facilities were there as they promised. A/C, Fans, Hot water shower everything worked.
- Beds, Sheets and Chairs were clean.
- This place is situated in a quiet, elite neighborhood middle of Jaffna. A really good place for those who appreciate a calm environment.
- The caretakers don't speak Sinhala but speaks good English and Tamil, so nothing to worry about if you speak either of them.
- There is a restaurant to order food here.
- The price is really cheap for the facilities they offer relative to other places in Jaffna.
- There is parking space and the property is surrounded by walls so nothing to worry about security.
Bads
- The floor was covered with dirt. They haven't taken any effort to sweep it. I haven't noticed this when I checked the room since I was wearing shoes. Big mistake on my side: (Would have asked them to clean if I noticed before we unload our baggage there.
- The windows were dirty too.
- There were heaps of mosquitoes probably coming from bathroom. There wasn't mosquitoe nets but a vaporiser available. Unfortunately that didn't help very much.
- There wasn't a sink to wash stuff in the relaxing area so we had to go to bathroom everytime we need to wash something.
As a summary I would say this is a good cheap place to stay if you're willing to face some inconveniences I mentioned here.
Extremely friendly staff, clam place. But I was over charged room price. I noticed that later.: (
Lot of refurbishments being done in the premisses, but it does not affect the stay. Large spacious room with nice views to garden. You have to call the Hotel number to get your room service too. The lady on the call is very pleasent, but it looks like she has be available 24/7 to attend to all the calls.
Hotwater was not available, either the equipment is broken or not working properly. They don't have toiletries, towels or bedsheets, so please take yours.
We stayed at Sarras in 2016, the staff were so friendly and helpful and went above and beyond to help us around the area and have great conversations with us, the neighbourhood was so quiet. Rooms were clean and basic, everything you need. Will stay here again whenever I go back to Jaffna.
Good place, nice staff very spacious rooms.
Must be an old house converted to a guest house!
Their customer services are very good.and they are very friendly people.they give bicycles to ride journey. There are A/C rooms. I like this place.
Sarras Guest House has been expanding recently. Their new suites are a little pricier than the price I saw listed on Lonely Planet (fyi). The staff were helpful, but I did notice that there were some things they missed while cleaning. The water did not work the night I stayed, but I did receive a large discount because of this. With working water and a cleaner room, I would rate this accommodation with four stars.
Located near the city. Easy access to Kandy Road and to the railway station. Old style guest house with Jaffna food. Large garden area. Very quiet place. On site staff available. Free wi-fi access, Ac rooms, hot water bathrooms, common lobby and more facilities.
4 of us had a lovely stay a Sarras, the room was very reasonably priced, with air con, decent beds etc, staff were extremely friendly and helpful when it came to places to eat, hiring mopeds and checking out. 10/10 would recommend
It’s a fabulous place with a calm surroundings,
We had a pleasant stay and staffs are very friendly too.
Very nice staff and good food, nice rooms. However the owner and manager are unkind to their staff. We had a scooter accident and there was blood on the sheets, they wanted a lot of money as compensation, if not they would charge the staff.
Right place in Jaffna. One of the oldest guest houses in the area. The colonial type main building has large bedrooms. Also a modern elegant buildings with deluxe rooms. Large space. Quiet surroundings. Walking distance from the railway stations.
