This station is controlled by the three wheel mafia (tuk tuk). Uber and Pick Me drivers are scared to enter the precinct as their cars will be damaged. Be prepared to pay an exorbitant amount if you hire transport here.

Officers in the ticket counters are very rude & lazy here. They do not provide enough information to the passengers about the trains & their times.
Officers in the ticket counters are not available for the passengers on time. The reason is that they are busy with having snacks & fun with other officers. These officers do not care passengers.

Unfortunately very poor. Everything requires major repair. Recommended demolish the entire station and rebuild a brand new one.

The best place for foreigners but not so for locals. Only one counter for each ticket class

Kandy railway station is a major railway station in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The station is served by Sri Lanka Railways and is the primary railway station in Kandy and one of the most significant in the central hills. The station sits on a branch of the Main Line, leading to the Matale Line.
The Colombo to Kandy railway line (what is now known as the Main line) was extended in stages, with the first stage to Ambepussa completed in December 1864 and the next stage to Polgahawela by November 1866. Following the construction of bridges over the Mahaweli Ganga and the Maha Oya the last rail tracks were laid on 15 April 1867. The next day the first steam engine entered the Kandy Railway Station. On 30 April 1867 the first train, a goods service, completed the journey from Colombo to Kandy, with the first passenger service commencing on 1 August 1867.
Initially there were two train passenger/mail services, leaving at the respective ends of the service at 7: 00am, with the overall journey taking 4.5 hours.
The railway station at Kandy was constructed on a site known as Deiyange Wela. It is 512 m (1,680 ft) above sea level and 120 km (75 mi) from Colombo. Kandy Railway Station features both Modernist and Victorian architecture. The station building is of the Art Moderne style, incorporating curving forms and long horizontal lines.
It uses concrete massing to create a geometric form. Its minimalist walls and simple, bold forms contrast sharply with the highly ornamented, traditional architecture that surrounds it.

Clean place and friendly officers.

Very narrow platforms. The railway station has a flood situation during the rainy days. As you can see in the picture, all the tracks are filled with rain water and its really disgusting

You might expect a train or even a ship or a boat if it's raining. However never on time though

A beautiful destination on a long train journey. But facilities are less. As it is a place where many local and foreign tourists hang out, proper attention should be paid by the administrative staff. The toilet system is very dirty. Needless to say, the inconvenience caused when the passengers coming from far away are expected to use the place they come to for their hygiene is very dirty.

Its a cool destination. Department services are functioning very quickly for providing services for passengers. Actually they do it well. But hope we can do lot of improvement to level up their services.

We should appreciate our public transport and also develop it. It's one of our most valuable resource. Train ride from Kandy to Badulla is unbelievable. It's the best.

Kandy is the world's largest scam city. Specially in "esala perahera" season there are millions of religious scams. Don't trust anyone in srilanka.

Beautiful country station. I have found most of the country railway stations to be very beautiful and a lot cleaner than the ones in Colombo
Kandy is a lovely place to visit by train

The station services are good. But these main stations need to improve more. Railroad is having garbage and covered with oil which not good for the environment. We should find a solution for such things.

The announcement are very clear and they communicate from Sinhala, English and Tamil.
