Melheim Resort Kandy

We only write five-star reviews, but only when five stars are really deserved. In the case of Melheim Kandy Villas we wish we had ten stars to give! All things considered, Melheim Kandy is one of the best places we've ever stayed.

Hotel
Located high in the hills of one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Kandy, the hotel commands a beautiful view down a valley with slopes covered in towering pines. Several African Tulip Trees nearby were stunning in their full crimson blooms, while more distant green canopy trees provided dappled sun on the lawns.
The hotel common areas are very beautiful, with highly polished stone floors, art objects, and a wide variety of antiques displayed. There are also many reprints of Sri Lankan historical photographs on the walls. There are both indoor and patio dining areas available, depending on the weather and your preference.
The pool area is tidy and the clear water was slightly chilly, which we loved. Plenty of sun was available for warming on the lounges after our refreshing daily dips.
Overall the atmosphere is very rich and luxurious, but still comfortable and welcoming.

Room
We walked into a fresh and well-lit large room (303), with a soaring ceiling, well appointed and perfectly clean. The bathroom appeared newly remodeled, and included full amenities. Every room we saw includes a spacious balcony with lovely chairs and table. Instant coffee, tea, creamer, sugar and kettle are in the room. These and bottles of water are supplied daily. There was a small fridge. The WiFi was strong in our room and available throughout the hotel.

Food
The Western and traditional Sri Lanka meals by Asela were equally delicious. The pork chops were to die for. Oh, and the mashed potatoes were SO tasty. The Sri Lankan dinner was the tastiest of our whole trip, during which we tried ten or more. Wow! We ate all three meals at the hotel both days. Our only complaint was that breakfast was way more than we could eat.

Staff
Lakshi was our primary hostess. She was AMAZING. So ready to help with anything we needed, always smiling, and willing to spend time with us, teaching us tidbits of Sri Lankan history and culture.
Thushara was a real gentleman host. His timing serving the five-course meals was flawless; always there right when needed.
Asela, the head chef, was responsible for the best meals we had in our 3-week Shi Lankan holiday.
Our thanks to these three for such a relaxing and satisfying stay!

We had a wonderful holiday with a wonderful staff who looked after us well. The food was delicious and they went out of their way to make tasty vegetarian meals for the vegetarians in the group as well.

Melheim Resorts Kandy: they lacked service in all areas. Only two staff on duty who had to handle all areas of the hotel so there was no room service, no proper cleaning, we had to patiently wait for hours until both of them struggled with the food serving and above all quality and quantity of food was very poor. They did not have halal food, but when we offered to buy it for them they were corporative enough to re-imburse the expenses and prepare it for us. So we had to go to town and shop for them and after all that we never saw the likes of the chicken we purchased as the portions they offered were very poor. Dinner was bad and on the first night we had re-order sandwiches at extra cost as everyone was hungry. The second night it was supposed to be chicken kottu, but we were lucky if we saw any chicken?
The property is situated in a beautiful location, the staff is over worked but trying their best to please, it was quite obvious the management was struggling to offer something far below their cost therefore compromising on the quality of the product. Overall we were disappointed in the hotel as when we travel with family for a break we expect to have quality in all areas of service.

Exceptional service. Place is well maintained. Very friendly and attentive staff. Food quality is good. Nice location. Value for money.
Overall, everything was good and would definitely recommend.

An amazing stay. The villas was very well equipped and very clean. The team was on the top. They are very friendly, helpful and very attentive to details. The reservation and check-in was very well coordinated from Chintaka. The restaurant service and food was the cherry on the cake. A very professional service and the food had nothing to complain of. The meals was so
beautifully prepared and presented. The service team was so professional that I witnessed a five star hotel standard service far from a resort. Mary was the one who made our stay so memorable.always with a great smile and great energy. She welcome you very time with an opened heart. Thanks you so much for everything. Will definitely go back soon.

Visited in mid december cannot recommend at all. Had the worst hotel experience in kandy. Meals were very very cheap.

I live in my own house in its neighbourhood and therefore never been a guest. It is a quiet and comfy atmosphere in there.

Melhim villa is a very nice place to visit will family. It is surrounded by mountains. We enjoyed very much. Staff also very kind and helpful.

We spent a night with our family, excellent hospitality and nice location. We went with our 8month baby on our request baby’s meal also they prepared and gave according to our request without any charges. Mr Prasad - Manger / Tiran- front office executive and all other staffs were very helpful in all aspects

I liked the place but it was not what I expected from eeing the photos (scenary wise). They were nice enough to give a discount as we were inconvenienced by a water from from around midnight to 7am. Food through room service was okay but not value for money (felt a tad overpriced) and the breakfast was okay too (strings and roti with curry - fish/chicken, fruit juice, kiri hodi, coconut smabol, tea coffee and some fruit for dessert). Migara and Shan were really helpful tho and very prompt. Got us extra water when we asked, was very friendly and courteous. Overall, I liked the place but second thoughts about going back.

Located on the slope of a hill, with a serene lush green surrounding this hotel offers a very calm and homely ambience. The room has a very cute decor with its own balcony overlooking the breathtakingly beautiful landscape of the valley. The hotel staff are extremely friendly and the food was amazing. Sri Lankan dishes are a must try. I stayed there only for a night but wish i had stayed longer.i would highly recommend this hotel especially for couples.

Very nice hotel, the staff was absolutely INCERDIBLE! Unfotunately food in the restaurant was very average, specially for the price Point.

In the end of VERY bad road. No buffet breakfast. But breakfast is acceptable. Good WiFi. No good information leaflet in rooms about hotel.

Location is ok. Hotel is fine. But room chargers and food are expensive with parallel to other hotels in same standered. Staff is very friendly and their service is good. Rates may be reasonable for foreigners. But im writing this as a local.

Food was delicious and served on time in right quantities. Friendly staff going beyond call of duty to help guests.
Chamila at reservations was the star who made it all happen perfect way. We will definitely visit again.

Schönes kleines Rundreisehotel mit wenigen Zimmern in den Bergen von Kandy. Hier kann man etwas dem Trubel von Kandy entfliehen und ist sicher vor großen Touristengruppen. Sehr freundliches Personal und leckeres Essen.

Totally worth the view; will always remember the sunset over the mountains.

Biggest downside: breakfast is a little sad, don't expect your bread to be freshly roasted

Perfect hideout if you look for comfort & tranquility. Staff is very friendly & accommodating. Super service & food. No buffet unless you have a group of considerable number but food is good. It's about 4km to Kandy city. Road is little difficult but definitely worth the price.
