Grand Kalundawa Waterfront Resort

A beautiful and good place to stay as a family. Staff is friendly and supportive. Breakfast was also good. Rooms were okay but could improve with maintenance alone. Overall we had a great time there.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Grand Kalundawa Resort during our staff outing. I must say, it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. I cannot recommend this hotel enough! Here's why:

First impressions matter, and the moment we stepped into the hotel, we were greeted by the warm and friendly staff who made me feel incredibly welcome. The check-in process was swift and efficient, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate any requests or queries we had throughout our stay.

What truly sets The Grand Kalundawa Resort apart is the exceptional level of service provided by the staff. Every member of the team we encountered was attentive, courteous, and genuinely dedicated to ensuring that our stay was flawless. They were always ready to assist, whether it was recommending local attractions, arranging transportation, or promptly addressing any concerns.

One of the highlights of our stay was the exquisite dining experience. The hotel's restaurant boasted a diverse menu of delectable dishes prepared with utmost skill and creativity. Each meal we had was a culinary delight, and the attentive waitstaff made dining a truly memorable experience.

Location-wise, The Grand Kalundawa Resort couldn't be better situated. From fresh water river to a beautiful swimming pool the environment provided us a perfect place for a great outing. From Water Kayak to Air Rifle Shooting, River BBQ, Swimming Pool, River Bath and beautiful Photo Locations made our day greater.

In summary, our experience at Grand Kalundawa Resort was simply outstanding. From the impeccable service and luxurious accommodations to the delectable dining and prime location, every aspect of our stay surpassed our expectations. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a truly remarkable and memorable experience. I will undoubtedly choose Grand Kalundawa Resort for my future visits to Dambulla.

In water front. Nice place but due to covid19 and economic crisis in srilanka no crowd, no business. But location and room's are nice.

My brother get his wedding on this hotel.
Food- very bad.lunch food s are not reserve on time. If finished lunch foods. Some are waiting 10 -15 mints for get curries.service - service is very bad.
A/C - A/C also not satisfied

We paid more than 8000/= for each room with all those benifits (8*2=16000)

as fair as for the charges, money isn't everything.the staff was friendly, but it's not sufficient Don't do this again for another consumer, room boy was good.

Located close to the river. Plenty of space available for parking. Friendly service & food was delicious. Basic room with needs. Small pool there but not maintained at all. That pool was full filled with algae. Can have a bath from the river. Place was not maintained well

Lovely location, great atmosphere for Family outing and vacation.
But does not have a standardized pricing for the food served.its like look at the Customer and charge a price.my experience was when I ordered 2 Kothu's for Dinner takeaway and was charged 1600.00
I don't think the Hilton has a charge like that.if they rectify this out by having a printed menu with the prices, they will certainly have potential and all the necessary attributes to be a great place.

A place where you can have a perfect stay along with the gentle flow of Dambulu Oya which is just by the property The rooms are simple where the basic facilities are available but there are some aspects that can be improved to provide a better service. Only drawback was there was a less signal range around the location and wifi was also not available when accessed from the rooms. Great place for budget travelers, nature lovers, families, kiddos. Plenty of time can be spent with the nature as there are several natural hotspots within the property.
The complimentary breakfast was actually superb and remarkable. The staff to be honest is very kind and helpful.

Good hospitality and service. The rooms are large, clean and well maintained. Food in the restaurant is also very good. The complementary breakfast is also very good.

Nice luxury rooms and a full time service. The breakfast was really good and the pool was nice for relaxing. The garden and the river was great for our child for playing. We even saw many monkeys.
Only the bathroom was not so nice, because the shower was moldy. But not the biggest problem.

The Manager is a very friendly and polite guy, he arranged us the breakfast in the treehouse even without asking, you will love it here if you like the views, nature, and birds singing in the morning. The Breakfast was a delight, and the service was 5****, I think foreigners, hikers, and nature lovers would love this place! Room and the bed were comfortable, spacious & there was a Tea / Cofee maker with all the stuff you need! + Complementary water bottles! The roof was really high, in fact, ones you are inside it's like you are in a 5* resort, Only a few small things to be improved.

To be objective, Room was better than average, air-conditioned and with a lake/river view (we were in room 101) there was a small water leakage in the bathroom, and the shower door was broken but no big issue there, overall there are small aspects that could be improved without spending much to make this place 100% perfect. *if you look for a 5***** & 100% cleanness, this is not the place for a perfectionist. -No wifi in rooms - (but this is not a big issue as in Sri Lanka you get about 5 GB data in 4G with dialog for less than 2 USD) -there is Dialog TV / paytv in the room but only a few channels were available. (this is a + point actually because other places at this price range do not have paytv at all) - Bed linen had some stains but clean (I loved the queen size bed and the Metress) - The swimming pool was awesome, but while I was there no one was using it so it wasn't clean enough, I'm sure if you ask the manager he will sort it out!

We faced a terrible experience at this hotel during our stay. I don't even want to imagine how worse it is. But, I think it's good to acknowledge everyone to avoid this place. Following are the main reasons I need to highlight.

1. There are dogs and cats all around the hotel. It's a terrible safety issue if you are staying there with kids.
2. The swimming pool is not clean enough. Actual look and feel of the swimming pool are totally different from what you are seeing on these images on the web.
3. Hotel staff said that the whole hotel has only two pool towels. Guests have to go to the pool with the towels provided at rooms.
4. Room TV connection got disconnect suddenly in the middle of a very favorite movie. It took around 12 hours to fix the connection issue. (They use daily top-up tv connections. When the line get disconnects then we have to stay till they top-up it on the next day when they find a free time)
5. The room has a telephone connection. But, reception never answers the phone. Especially after 9.00 pm, there's no one to answer the phone. You have to wait till next morning even though it's an emergency call.
6. We stayed there for two nights. They provided only two water bottles to the room at check-in. We need to find water and other requirements our own if we are staying more than one night.
7. On the second night, we asked to deliver dinner to the room. Yes, they did it but, none of the plates are covered. There's nothing to close the plates. They deliver meals from kitchen to the room without any cover? TERRIBLE!
8. When they send the foods to the room, then never send required cutleries. When we asked, room boy got angry and talked us in a very rude manner. He said they do not provide any cutleries to the rooms.
9. Most of the foods are overcooked. No taste. Not enough.
10. Finally, the staff is not trained. To cover up 14 rooms they have only one manager type person, one service boy, and one boy giving room services and everything.

We just faced this horrible experience for two nights. I never recommend this hotel as a three-star hotel. The actual level of services and the quality of the hotel is way behind a three-star hotel.
