Kalundewa Retreat reviews
63 Beautiful hotel, in the middle of nature.
The service was excellent, as was the food. We felt very comfortable.
World Class Stay.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Kalundewa Retreat, Dambulla.and I can't express enough how delightful my experience was. From the cozy ambiance to the mouthwatering cuisine and the warm, friendly staff, my stay was nothing short of exceptional.
Upon arrival, I was immediately struck by the charm of the hotel's concept. The tasteful blend of natural and traditional elements created an inviting and comfortable atmosphere that made me feel right at home. The attention to detail in the room's design was evident, and it was impeccably clean and well-maintained throughout my stay.
The highlight of my stay, however, was undoubtedly the food. The hotel's on-site restaurant offered an array of delectable dishes that catered to various culinary preferences. Each meal I had was not only a feast for the taste buds but also a visual delight. The presentation was on par with the flavors, and the diverse menu ensured there was something for everyone.
The hotel's location is also worth mentioning. It is situated in a truly attractive place, surrounded by scenic views and conveniently close to several local attractions. I enjoyed exploring the nearby areas and was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the surroundings.

"KARANDA CHALET" 2023.10.22
We chose four hotels for our honeymoon and one of them was this hotel. We stayed here for one night. There is a very beautiful environment. It's very quiet. You can ride a bike while looking at the beauty of the environment in the morning. The food is also very good. Hotel staff are friendly. Highly Recommended.
If tranquility means something then so does Kalundewa Retreat. It is truly a treat for your soul with acres of greenery with an equal portion of water bodies that will keep your senses awakened. Let's not forget the variety of two-legged creatures roaming about is indeed a feast for the eye.
Kalundewa Retreat is a serene haven nestled in the heart of nature. This resort offers a perfect blend of luxury and tranquility, making it an ideal escape for nature enthusiasts and relaxation seekers. The resort is surrounded by lush landscapes, offering breathtaking views from every corner.
The staff is dedicated to ensuring every guest's comfort and satisfaction. From the moment I arrived, I felt warmly welcomed and well taken care of. During my stay, I indulged in a variety of outdoor activities, cycling, bird photography, Nature walks in their fruit garden. The famers even offered us some fruits also.
However, I must share that my dining experiences left me desiring more. The culinary offerings, while decent, did not match the elevated standard set by the rest of the resort. I believe that with some attention and refinement, the dining experience at Kalundewa Retreat could match the exceptional quality of its surroundings. By focusing on improving the food options in the menu and tasty of food items like pizza, fried rice and soup items, has the potential to provide guests with a truly unforgettable and holistic experience.
Absolutely gorgeous views and such a close experience with nature. Perfect for couples as the place affords a lot of privacy. Plenty of activities one can engage in too.
Comfy and calm place.we stayed at kumbuk chalet…it was beautiful and totally relaxing environment…
Kalundewa Retreat is a breathtaking place to stay at. We absolutely loved our stay. A perfect place to unwind & connect with the beautiful wildlife. Good food and extremely friendly staff. Highly recommended the same to family and friends as it is a one in a million experience

It was very nice stay in this hotel, all staff are good, attendable, no complain
Thank you
The rooms were stunning and the grounds were gorgeous. The food was also super delicious! I highly recommend staying here for a few days.
We absolutely loved our stay. A perfect place to unwind & connect with the beautiful wildlife. Good food and extremely friendly staff. Highly recommended.
The property is one of its kind, and we did really enjoy the atmosphire away from the hustele and bubble. The staff is amazing they did every thing possible to make our stay a memorable one. They do make the difference. Chef Mahinda, we do really miss his cousine, the amazing food that he tuned out to us, its mouth watering.we ceretanly want to come back.
There were few things which were not up to the mark and we were not happy and dusspointed, and urge you to fix the them ASAP. I list them iut below
1. The challte leaked from every where other than the sleeping area, I alomost slipt and fell trying to reach the toilets
2. House keeping is an areas which is neglected, there were cobwebs in the challets
3. Room cleaning is appauling, despite me reqesting 4 time from 8 am on 19th December the room was not cleaned, and ultimately had to call you to get it attended at 6pm
4.there are Rats, the food has been dragged away and had poo on the sink top
5. The swimming pool is a disaster, it has not been cleaned for ages, water was brown in colour with mud, would have certainly ended up with a water borne diseas had we used it.
6.the towls were beyond its life span, non of them were fit to be used to wipe a Human body, actually i would used them in the kitchen to wipe the floor
One of my top favorite places to go!
You feel like living in small cottage near a river bank. Karanda with its own little pantry and an plunge pool is a perfect getaway.meals are served to the rooms but definitely have a stroll around the paddy fields and a boat ride, everything within the premises.there’s a close by mountain for hikers too but you can always gather around the pool and just listen to the nature with a glass of wine
They welcome with a wild berry refresher, was the highlight of the stay.it’s wonderous to see how local ingredients are used.
Loving the architecture of all the chalets and they maintain it well
Undoubtedly one of the best experiences of a hotel stay here in Sri Lanka. A massive land coverage with so much of greenery and nature also surrounded by water. The chalets with the lake view are just beautiful throughout the day. The plunge pools in the chalets are made to relax and refresh with no hassle of having to walk around. You need at least 2 nights to have a good time. The food is very interesting. Had a lot of fusion items on the menu - not your everyday usual stuff. The activities are also very interesting. Only negative experience was a bunch of bees got triggered after turning on a light outside the chalet and took some serious effort to get them out with a wounded knee amidst the struggle. Can't complain cuz nature is what it is. But probably the team there can make sure to do some preventative maintenance time to time.
One of the best retreat experiences one could ask for.
Bakmee chalet is well suited for a family (can accommodate 5 people easily) is right in the edge of a water body. Provides an extremely soothing experience.
Food was good (not exceptional, extravagant. Ala carte menu is available and changes daily). However the service made up for everything else. Super helpful staff who are very accommodating.
Lots of activities to chose from kayaking, cycling and fruit picking. Definitely worth the money.
One of the most beautiful properties I've ever seen. Having extensively traveled within Sri Lanka and overseas, I must admit that Kalundewa Retreat is in my top 3! We booked for 2 nights and each night we stayed in a different suite/villa. The property is a stunning 180+ acre land which is largely used for agriculture. There are a limited number of (8 in total?) rooms/villas making you feel secluded and completely private. The flora and fauna is untouched. A great place for birds, large squirrels, monkeys and many more living beings. The first night we stayed at the Damunu suite. A beautiful suite overlooking the fields of paddy and other crops, and at the back a huge rock/mountain. The room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. The second night we stayed at Karanda Chalet. Jaw-dropping beautiful. The architecture of this property is so special. Nature is key but so is comfort and privacy! The chalet is designed with 3 major elements. Glass, Aluminium and timber. The staff of the property were great. We requested rice and curry for dinner. Although it was not planned for their set menu for dinner. They did come personally to our chalet to inform us that the chef will be specially cooking Sri Lankan curries for us. WOW! Food was great. We had Sri Lankan and Western breakfast and both were amazing! Boppe was very helpful too! Definitely coming back and definitely recommending this property to everyone! Ps. Small tip; The property screams sustainability and eco-consciousness. From the villagers who come to work on the land, to growing your own vegetables and using them in your kitchen etc. We ordered some soda and tonic to the room for our evening Gin and Tonic. The bottles were small plastic bottles. I'd suggest in the future to use glass, recyclable bottles. That's the only thing I've noticed. Other than that, a 10 out of 10!
Taste food. Nice place, good staff, friendly service. After 1year, i remember this all things & memorys. Love it ️
It is a perfect place to relax and spend the days with all the nature surrounding the chalets. The food was good and the hospitality was amazing and with all that combined this is one of the best hotels I've visited in Sri Lanka.
Kalundewa Retreat was one of the best places we have ever visited. This luxury retreat is situated in the middle of a 120 acre plantation and the views were mesmerizing. We spent three days in the Karanda Chalet and it was truly one-of-a-kind experience. Reaching this place is extremely easy and it is not so far from the Dambulla town. Everyone in the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The manager Mr. Ranil was very kind and extremely helpful. The food was delicious and fresh. Make sure to try their Sri Lankan food, you will not regret! They provided us with a free buggy ride around the Plantation and Mahesh, who was our guide did a wonderful job showing us around every exotic fruit they were growing and we could even try them too. We also got the chance to visit the Bakmee chalet which was an architectural masterpiece. Also, do not forget to take the free Kayak ride! It was truly an unforgettable memory. They also provide with free bicycles to roam around the premises. There is a beautiful natural spring water pool located outside the main land. The place is filled with exotic birds and many more animals. We shall definitely visit this place again. Thank you for hosting us!
