One of the best experiences I’ve ever experienced. Surrounding were marvelous
Food was delicious. Staff was super friendly and kind. U can ask chef, if u need any changes to ur meal cz what they provide is a set menu.
Rooms were clean and comfortable bathrooms were ventilated and clean.

It was an excellent experience of staying in Sir. John's baglow and touring arround the Nucleus range. The old bunglow demonstrates the lifestyle of the colonial culture. Friendly and dedicated staff is committed to provide utmost comfort and delicious food to the maximum satisfaction of their guests.

Located at the heart of Riverston this place serves as a perfect getaway from your busy life. It is situated perfectly between the riverston Tower entrance and pitiwala pathana. This antique bungalow used to serve Sir John Kotalawala who was the third prime minister of Sri Lanka.

You can arrive here from Rattota side and from Illukkumbura side. Road is relative ok from Illukkumbura side but if you are coming from Colombo you have to take the Rattota route. En route through Rattota you can visit Bambarakiri Ella water fall. From either side route is very scenic and it is a completely different world.

You can choose rooms from the main bungalow and from the upper deck. Room 1,2,3 in Main bungalow gives direct view to scenic Mountain pains. Basic amenities are provided but don't expect 5 star level amenities from this place. You hardly get any reception here but staff had taken measures to put together a WiFi facility with great effort but speed is pretty low. However I don't consider it as a negative point considering I anyway wanted to be isolated in misty mountains.

For breakfast and lunch you get a Sri Lankan set menu and for dinner gets a western diet. Chef Shirantha made sure we get a tasty meal and quality of food was top notch. On request you can arrange a BBQ for the dinner. Other staff members was also very helpful and took every bit of their effort to make our stay pleasent and memorable.

Overall a very positive experience I had in Sir John's Bungalow and can recommend to anyone whole heartedly for a getaway they expect in mountains.

Great location with a beautiful misty mountain view, and this colonial villa is located 31 km from Matale town. The staff was wonderful. The hotel is well maintained. The beds were very firm, and wash rooms are very cleaned. The food was good. I, especially, enjoyed the view of the sunrise.

Very rustic location in the middle of nowhere with access to amazing hiking trials and places of natural beauty - extremely friendly staff - focus of the trip should be the sights to enjoy and not creature comforts

A lovely and enjoyable 2 nights stay with 3 of my classmates. Excellent service by the staff including Dilkie who made our booking arrangements. Bungalow staff member Ranga was exceptional and so was Shiranthas (in charge of F&B) food preparations and presentation. Very friendly and helpful too. Also was lucky to experience beautiful sunny weather during our stay.

We had a great time. All went well. The staff was great, friendly and helpful. Anyone should make it a point to visit this place.

Gorgeous bungalow with so much history and culture. And the views! Amazing views of mist laden mountains that are just the cherry on top of our experience at SJB.
The staff especially were so accommodating. Enjoyed the exceptional food and service overall.

Do note very spotty WiFi and no cell service accustom to the area, but that just adds to the experience of a true “mind-resetting” holiday.

It is wonderful place to spend time without day to day hassles. Really appreciate to the staff who looks after us very well. Foods delicious and enjoyed lot.

It was a more wonderful place than I expected. Especially the staff and their service. It is mentioned that we need to get our meals within the given time periods strictly. But we were able to talk with them and adjust the time without any problems. It is upto you to plan your vacation. So flexible. And the staff is very kind and pleasant. They know how to treat their customers. The food is also very good.
One thing to improve. Better to have at least one square pin plug point in the room.

Sir Johns Bungalow is our ‘go-to place’ in Riverston. The staff is super friendly and the food is amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed our stays and looking forward to visiting again.

Food and place is great, nice atmosphere. But Steward is trying to take his time off soon asking us to wrap up soon. On our first night he asked to wrap up the dinner soon, because of another batch coming for dinner but no one visited, next day he applied a similar talk too, I already informed the owners about this situation as its not nice.

Great experience. Had a lovely stay! The views of the mountains and and unending landscapes are breathtaking!

Stayed in the bungalow from 18-20 April. Lovely place. Beautiful scenery. Good food. Amazing service by staff. Wi-Fi was not good but it wouldn’t bother me. Good luck and keep up the good work!

Amazing place blended with nature. View is extraordinary specially during sunrise. Food was good.
Only usb plugs available and no kettles are provided due to they run on solar power. Week cellular coverage as well.

This is an old, out of grid bungalow set in an amazingly picturesque place with vistas that you will welcome you each morning, noon and night. Location 7*. The two boys who took care of us are friendly, prompt, courteous.service 5*. The food is tasty but sometimes the meat portions needed complaining to be brought back to normal. 3*. Toilets need a fresh coat of paint, The furniture needs to be re covered. 2*. Wifie doesnt work, Tvs dont work, They switch off the generator after 9pm. (There is no data reception on aney mobile networks so this matters). 0*

The veiws are beautiful and the premise is alright. There was a small leak on the roof and the bathtubs were pretty much unuseable as they were not clean. The food was subpar. Telco services are not available. There is no functional wifi.
