Photos cannot do justice to the atmosphere at Barberyn Beach. Our one-week stay in autumn was so great and, despite the short time for Ayurveda, so lasting that I would like to go back soon.

The location is fantastic: you live in the middle of the jungle by the sea, surrounded by peacocks, monkeys, iguanas and various birds. The beach is rather unsuitable for swimming due to the waves, but there are small, quieter bays on Coconut Beach (accessible via a small path by the sea) and you can take a really nice walk by the sea there. The resort is a hustle and bustle and you have a well-rounded day with yoga, food, treatments, food, etc, so you can really get away from your (Western) everyday life. The other guests are primarily German/European, you quickly start talking and realize that the majority have already been here several times.

Our biggest highlight was the Ayurvedic food: morning and lunch an incredibly extensive buffet of almost exclusively vegan dishes (there were also some vegetarian dishes + fish) such as various curries, sambols, vegetable and rice dishes and a multi-course menu in the evening. There was also a huge selection of tropical fruits and specially tailored juices/herbal teas and soups depending on the doctor's assessment. We have never felt so good and so completely full in our lives - not a single day have we had the digestive problems that regularly bother us in Germany. There is also tea time in the afternoon and evening, where you can enjoy herbal tea, pastries or fruit.

Our second highlight were the yoga classes, partly Hatha Yoga, partly Pranayama breathing yoga (3x/day - morning, afternoon and evening) with Amesh, who enjoyed his yoga training in India (you can get an insight on YouTube). The lessons are held regularly on the roof of the neighboring Waves Hotel, a great experience when the birds fly by, the view glides over the sea and the jungle while the sun slowly rises or sets. Getting up early was a real challenge for the first few days, but from day 3 we really looked forward to the hours.

While you don't have any treatments, you can relax at one of the two pools (including a large infinity pool where you can swim lengths) and get fresh juices, fresh coconut or tea for free all day long. There are also short excursions into the surrounding area (e.g. We took the short tour to Galle and walked through the old town for about an hour) as well as lectures/cooking instructions directly at the resort.

The entire staff is super friendly, helpful and local, unlike other surf yoga retreats in Sri Lanka that were founded by former business managers from Europe - we found that particularly positive.

The only thing I unfortunately didn't like were the Ayurvedic treatments themselves. It felt very much like an assembly line here, the program of oil massage, acupuncture, baths and packs was the same for everyone every day, the "extra treatments" seemed counted and counted were correspondingly short. Of course the packs etc.had different ingredients depending on the illness, but it is a mass production as many have already written (on Tripadvisor). This was also the case with acupuncture, where everyone received the same needles.

We had the cheapest room category, which was very damp (our clothes and shoes were moldy) and musty. Here I would recommend the better room categories higher up with a better sea view (or a room in the new Waves). We thought the airport transfer was great.

Personally, I think it would be great if you could book the resort without the treatments and just with full board and yoga if you don't stay for 3-4 weeks. Because I would return at any time just for the ambience, the location, the great food and the great yoga classes.

Ein tolles Resort mitten im Urwald und in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Strand.
Die Menschen extrem freundlich und bemüht. Die Anwendungen sehr umfangreich.

The Barberyn Beach is real heaven! Place, treatments, food and staff were all amazing!

I booked last minute an Ayurveda retreat due to a very last minute change of plans/destination and followed my instinct when choosing both the destination (Sri Lanka) and the accommodation (Barberyn Beach) … I went with my mother and I think we both agree that we were lucky in choosing so well! Even though we would not have said that at first…: the weather was pretty grey with heavy rain, the humidity was a bit hard and most of all we were very tired and did not realise how the treatments could affect us. We were lethargic the first 3 days, a bit nauseous with some heavy headaches and intense intestinal discomfort, and we thought we were the only ones and did not mention it to anyone. I think it took us a few days to get in the mood and understand exactly the concept and how things worked, take the pace. Having said so, after 3 days, waouh! What a change! We finally were able to notice and appreciate the beauty of the place, the nature, the animals and the sounds but also the small details and attentions that makes the place unique (few small surprises along our stay), the absolutely adorable staff, the caring and attentive behaviour of everyone in general, the friendliness and warmth of the other guests and the efforts that the whole staff makes to make you feel well, welcome and taken care of.

The treatments are absolutely wonderful! The masseuses take their time, they are delicate and kind and really go until the end of things. It seems that unfortunately some of them were slightly less great but we were definitely lucky with ours who were amazing! Their massages are complete, from head to toes, strong and smooth at the same time… Acupuncture was a real discovery as I did not like it very much before but there it brought me deep relaxation and I really looked forward to it everyday. The herbal garden where you lay down with patches filled with plants on different areas of your body is a moment of complete bliss, one of my favourites! I fell asleep everytime and always would have felt like staying longer: the sounds of the birds and other animals, the dripping of the rain, the view, everything made it so peaceful…

As we started our treatments around 9: 30, we were finishing them just in time for lunch. Breakfasts and lunches are buffet and dinners are served apart from buffet Wednesday and Saturday. And the food is DELICIOUS! Everything is tasty, perfectly seasoned and soooo yummy! Really one of the best I ever had! It is composed of various and diverse local Sri Lankan and mostly vegetarian food. Everything is labelled with ingredients and what it is good for or when it is supposed to be avoided.

The hotel offers you various activities throughout the week: lectures, excursions, food demonstrations, yoga etc… the beach is beautiful even if quite shaky and the pool area is comfortable. I think I could write for hours about this place! I was a bit disappointed that I did not fit into the atmosphere directly but I now realize it is quite normal and unfortunately we had only 8 days there so time flew very fast… I am pretty sure that we will both be back relatively soon as we fell in love with this place and quickly noticed that there are a lot of usuals coming back since years and years…

The only slightly negative point would be that the price of the room is pretty high for its quality and comfort. The beds are good, you will sleep very well but the mosquito net system could be more efficient. The sofa is also not very comfortable and the bathroom could be more practical. The whole think would need a bit of refurbishment in my opinion. Also, the door could be made hermetic in order to prevent big ants or centipedes to come in as they are able to pass underneath. Same for the windows on the balcony. This would add a bit of comfort even though we understand that being in nature also means having to live with a few creatures we are not used to to live with.

Top! If you're looking for an Ayurvedic treatment center, this is the place to be!
+after doctor's consultation you have daily treatments, which include acupuncture, 1 hour massage (4 hands), steam bath with herbs, inhalation, body wrapping with different oils, etc. It takes daily 2,5-3 hours of treatment and for all of that you pay 85€ per day.
You get out from this center 10 years younger!
+ no meat, no coffee, no alcohol or soda drinks. You have lots of local vegetables freshly prepared, lots of fruits and fresh juices. Be ready for lots of curry)
+The place itself is amazing, in a jungle, surrounded with lots of trees and greens, that helps so much to connect to nature
+ It has a direct access to the beach.
+ daily yoga classes (morning and evening)
+ regular guided tours free of charge
+ they pick up/drop off at the airport

And the most important the service is just top! Every single employee does his/her best to make your stay comfortable. They work with 200% engagement!

A piece of heaven on earth! This Ayurvedic resort will rejuvenate you and leave you feeling younger and healthier. It's been my introduction to Ayurveda and I left with my back pain and bloats gone. Everyone working there was exceptionally nice and genuinely caring while giving the treatments which include a daily massage! I absolutely loved the food. PS.it's a level 1 security hotel - the best way to spend your quarantine ;)

Great place if someone takes Ayurveda serious. Great doctors and staff. Hotel is clean and basic. If you want AC you need to request this with your booking and you will get charged extra. No WiFi in the rooms, only in public areas and not very reliable. You might be better off buying a local
SIM card.

Really in love with this place. Great environment. Amazing place. Not a single particle of polythene can be seen here. Had a small talk with a guy who works here and said that during this time of the year normally the hotel is fully booked but unfortunately due to the incident that the country had to face there were only few guests there at the time. However there's a definite growth of tourism after the incident but still not to the par. Visit this place and you won't regret your stay here, so much of greenery and nature is surrounded.

First of all: in my opinion it's completely safe to travel to Sri Lanka. You will be picket up at the airport from the staff that drives you to Barberyn Beach.
There you will be welcomed with a refreshing fresh pressed juice and accommodated to your room. I had a lovely room with a great view.

It's an absolutely wonderful Resort with Swimmingpool, great surrounding and non touristic beach were you can take nice walks.

The staff is super professional, friendly and lovely!
You will experience lots of different Ayurvedic Treatments adapted to your person and health needs!

The food is incredible! There is rich and various and buffet for breakfast and lunch, prepared with love and a dream for all eyes and obviously taste!

I can't wait to go back and highly recommend it to everyone!
Thank you very much to the whole staff of Barberyn Beach!
