Mirissa Beach Wadiya Guest House

I stayed at this hotel twice and liked it (2015 & 2020). As you can see from the pic, the room is clean with a great view (this is the top floor without balcony but a good price).

On the second stay I ate at their restaurant 3 times and the food was good except the last night the fish tasted really weird, like there was soap on the plate or something. I don't like writing a negative review about staff who work long hours but a waiter first ignored me and then started calling me a “Liar” and really crossed the line.

Other than the restaurant experience it was good, but that was not acceptable. It seems management is not always on site anymore.

Secondly, I ate at the restaurant 3 times, and the food was good, except my last fish dinner. Im into food, took the cooking class in Mirissa, so take pics at times, as I did for my fish curry lunch and fish, shrimp and calamari dinner.

It doesn’t make me happy to write a negative review about staff who work long hours, however they were incredibly rude when I said I felt a strong taste of soap on the that meal. First they ignored me and then one fellow, wearing a blue cap, called me a “Liar” about 20 times. It was unbelievable. I have a decent enough job this was in no way about money. Disappointing.

Very bad first impression as they had a rottweiler, which they clearly could not control. It barged at the guest and was not in a line. It scared us and a couple of other guest.

The service at this hotel is so bad. The receptist won't assist you with anything.
There was one day with the lack of hot water out of the two nights I stayed here.
I was promised breakfast up till 12: 00 o'clock if you return from a Whale Safari. When I went to the kitchen, they declined and told me it was not possible!

We did not really try the restaurant except for the breakfast, which was actually good. They provided good toasted bread, not the usually cheap toast.

Nice hotel, Beautiful view near the beach, Comfortable bed and Fresh seafood.friendly service staff.

WARNING. They take advantage of tourists.

I asked a server to order a beer, he said 300 rupees. Then another server yelled something and they argued for a moment. After that, he said 400 rupees. Then I asked to see a menu to check the price and they refused. I went to the bar next door and paid 300 rupees for a beer. Go to Marissa One (next door) instead. Just like in Miami. Scummy bastards.

Be warned that because it backs onto the beach, it gets REALLY loud at night and you will not get a full night's sleep.

Terrible staff.
We booked a room with balcony and Seaview but when we got there they tried to give us a room on the bottom floor with no windows, that smelled horrible of mold and felt like a prison cell, when we complied they said they were fully booked.
After 15-20 minutes of arguing they finally gave us our room that was clearly prepared for us.

Comfortable beds, but the linnen was stained with blood or something similar.

At the breakfast that was Included it was we and another table. Waited one hour for very bad coffee, toast. 3 very small slices of watermelon two slices of dry orange and two rings of pineapple, while we had waited abouta30-40 minutes our waiter took of to the beach and played ball with his stoner friend.when we finally got our fried eggs they were raw in the middle and overdrive's around, and since they have windows to the unhygenic kitchen, we didn't dare to eat it.
All of the staff seemed very high and was more interested of being high than help any of the guest.
DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. STAY AWAY

I don't know why some people do bad reviews about this place.this is good hotel in the center of Mirissa, first line with their own beach, most rooms are sea-view location.hotel is in middle price category.yes, they don't clean your room every day by default, but they do if you ask them.here's a very friendly and helpful staff, good breakfasts, hot water in bathroom are always present, nice view to the ocean, many of shops and restaurants are near.this is best hotel for its price!

In my case it seems my plate must not have been rinsed clean because, on the last meal only, during a busy time at the restaurant, every other bite had a strong taste of soap. When I brought that up, they ignored me and then one fellow, wearing a blue cap, called me a “Liarman” about 20 times quite loudly. It was unbelievable. Not only was I a guest at the hotel and eating all my meals there, but I had been a guest there three years ago. I asked to speak to management but was told they are abroad or were in the hospital. On my previous visit, there was onsite management, a nice woman, and I doubt that kind of behavior could have occurred, it was disappointing. I ended up going next door with friends who just arrived and ordering (and paying for) dinner again after a long wait for a partial refund along with many insults.

Awesome beach side food with your fav drink! Dont miss it! Everyother is just racist and will judge you on colour of your skin! Btw Im from India

Friendly staff, nice rooms and prices are very reasonable but food not very much. Plus the happy hour deals are amazing

Small. But comfortable rooms with air conditioning. Coffee station and a fridge. TV and balcony.
Good hot water supply for a decent shower

Accidentally we went to that hotel and we had great time, we enjoyed beach/hotel/ most of all foods, and prices of course that is fair, we will definitely going there again, thank you beach wadiya,

After ordering three beers for my friends and I, the highly intoxicated boss here (short curly hair, usually wears a cap) verbally assaulted me for not speaking in Sinhalese to him. He then threatened to beat me up in order to teach me the language and as I walked away from this guy, he told me that he would get someone to rape me! Try to avoid at all costs.

They had a good dj for the new year. What pissed me off was they don't allow locals in, instead they portray beach boys as locals to the foreign tourists. They are ruining the lankan impression by asking for money and selling drugs. The beach ofcourse is really nice.
