Nalaka Relaxing Home

Nala and I met through the neighbouring Solid Surf House and have become good friends. He is extremely knowledgable about Sri Lanka and provides small tours, so any questions you have can be answered.

I stayed with his family for 2-3 days while I was in Welligama. The bed, sheets, towels, room, and everything was high quality and comfortable. The room is extremely clean and any issues are quickly resolved.

Nala also offers breakfast, lunch, or dinner with his family (if needed) which is so special. You are immediately treated like family and that is reflected in the way he treats his guests.

The room itself is situated on the second floor, allowing views of the monkeys, squirrels, and other creatures in the area. This homestay is conveniently located close to Welligama Bay and Fishermans surf spots, but far enough for privacy.

Would recommend staying here if you want privacy, comfort, and convenience.

We spent a week in Nala's House and it was really great!
The room was very clean and we constantly received new towels, bed linen, etc. Nala and his great family are very attentive, take care of every little thing and between the surf sessions there is tea on the terrace:)
We will certainly come back!

We spend one week at Nalas Homestay and it was really nice. The rooms are clean, with enough space an AC and a ventilator. Nala and his lovely family were really kind, we had a few „tea parties“ in the evening. Once we even cooked lunch together with his wife and his cute girls that was a great experience!
The house is built around three trees and in Nalas garden are many different plants and even some monkeys in a mango tree from time to time:)
So if you are looking not only for a nice room but also want to experience the real Sri Lankan culture and meet great people stay at Nalas House!

We can definitely recommend Nala’s homestay! If you would like to get an authentic touch of people/culture/history of Sri Lanka, this is the right place to stay. Nala and his family are extremely welcoming, helpful, reliable and nice. We had such nice talks and even a curry cooking class with Nala’s wife.

Weligama surf spots are super close and easy to reach.

I stayed with Nala and his lovely family when i got high fever and missed my flight. Being sick in a foreign country can be really scary but Nala and his family made me feel home and part of them. Thanks for taking good care of me and providing me everything I needed and the best food also:) the rooms are super clean with big bathrooms and equipped with A/C and a fan. You can see monkeys playing around from time to time and the beautiful jungle beach is just around the corner. Great homestay if you are planning on going surfing!

Amazing stay in a beautiful place close to nature! I loved the fact that the house was build around a tree as it is so special! The host and his family are super nice and accommodating! Really worth it!

There is no better way starting your Sri Lanka journey at Nala’s House. The local family is zo warm and welcoming and the place wonderful. Amazing to woke up by monkeys and squirrels living in the trees around the house. I would really recommend this place, it touched my heart!

Rooms are really cleaned and lovely theres also a tree coming out from the wall its a little bit jungle feeling with the beautiful nature around with a lot of monkeys and fruits.
The owner is called Nala and his very friendly and lovely he welcomes you really with his heart and you can ask him everything about sri lanka he‘s a tourist guide so he really is here for you its beautiful to see the real culture from sri lanka in his home
you can surf really good around there you can go everywhere with a tuk tuk and he will organize it
its really worth to go there for holidays

Kindhearted and caring, this is how Nalaka treats his guests in his cozy Home Stay. A nice chat is more than a recomention, as a tour guide Nalaka knows a lot about Sri Lanka.
He also cares about Nature, thats why he built his house around the trees, be it rooms or balcony - you feel close to nature. Altough that, the rooms a very clean!
We got that accomodation in cooperation with the nearby Surfcamp, and highly recommend it.

I had a wonderful stay at Nala´s Relaxing Home. The house is build on a tree, the room is very beautiful, clean and had a big balcony from where i could watch the monkeys and birds all day. Nala and his family are very kind, beautiful people, with great hospitality. I can warmly reccommend to stay here! Its very close to the small a little bit hidden jungle beach and only 2 min with the TukTuk to Weligama.

I was greeted very warmly and had a wonderful two weeks at Nala's place! The room was very clean, comfortable and charmingly incorporated the tree that the house is built around.

I felt very connected to nature here - step outside on the balcony and come face to face with monkeys, see little geckos, fireflies or birds or cross paths with a land monitor on my way out. Nala is a tour guide and is very knowledgeable about Sri Lanka - he told me a lot about the flora and fauna and the history of the country.

I was also treated to some delicious home cooked food by Nala's family - I especially loved the pumpkin curry and the hoppers. I also got to try some fruits new to me like soursop. Overall, staying at Nala's place was a really wonderful experience and I left with great memories shared with lovely people.

I felt at home during my stay with Nala and his family. During difficult times, because of power cuts and high prices for petrol, Nala stayed positive and treated me with lots of profesionality and warmth! I would advice everybody to stay at this place and experience it for yourself! Nala can give you the real Sri Lankian experience! With regards to the room it was amazing that you sleep next to a tree and if your a lucky some monkeyfriends will sit next your window. Room is really clean!

We stayed with Nala and his family for 2 weeks whilst with Solid Surf Camp. Although these rooms are advertised by Solid as the 'budget rooms' there's really nothing budget about them. Beautiful, newly renovated, exceptionally clean, well looked after, spacious double rooms with a balcony and wonderful jungle view. Infinitely better than we were expecting. Good view of monkeys swinging in the trees. Hot water shower. Great location, 10 minute walk to Jungle beach and a 5 minute tuk tuk journey away from the main Weligama Beach strip.

Nala's English is outstanding which made it so easy to talk to him. He was so friendly, welcoming, attentive, available, caring and looked after us from day one. He has also worked as a tour guide so he helped us a lot with planning our onward trip throughout Sri Lanka. Nala has a beautiful wife and 2 little girls who are always wanting to play. They became like a second family to us.

I cannot recommend staying here enough to potential travellers. Worth every rupee.

Nalaka (Nala) describes his accommodation as an authentic eco friendly homestay, I couldnt put it better myself. To start with you are greeted by the whole family. Nalaka will always have warm smiles and is always keen to find out about your day or journey. Arali his two year old daughter is the most social cheeky girl I've ever met and provides endless joy and entertainment with her sister Thisali a talented dancer. Nadi (the Mum of the family) will surprise you with tasty beverages throughout your stay and is equally friendly. We had the pleasure of having a meal cooked my Nadi and it was as authentic, tasty and fresh as it gets.

The room is spacious and a spectacular sight. We had a tree growing through the wall and up through the ceiling in a work of art and architecture. The beds are a comfy super king and with mosquito nets, AC, and a fan provided. Everything is top quality and modern and if you have any problems at all Nala will help out willingly and promptly. If you like wildlife you can see all sorts from the private balcony; one afternoon and was able to watch the monkeys jumping through the trees from the comfort of my own bed. Nale really knows nature well, he taught me many things from the noise of a gecko, to what certain leaves are edible and which monkey is which.

The monkeys are a highlight of staying at Nalaka's relaxing Home, he keeps one mango tree for himself and one for the monkeys to help themselves. There is a group of about 20 (including baby monkeys) which will freely come and go from rooftops or coconut trees. It felt like a homestay safari at times with all of the nature surrounding.

Another bonus is Nala's 15 years of tour guide experience. His English is impeccable and he has knowledge about everywhere on the island. He helped us plan the rest of our journey around Sri Lanka which was a great help. He even offered to take me shopping when I needed specific items.

In summary, if you're looking for an authentic homestay, immersed in nature but with modern comforts then this is 100% the place to come.

We (a couple from Germany) have been staying at Nalas place for one week in January of 2022.
We had a beautiful room with a big and comfortable bed and a balcony from which we were able to see the garden around the house.
The room was well equipped, clean and had a big bathroom, AC, fan, fridge and mosquito nets.

Upon arrival Nala and his family were welcoming us with a delicious welcome drink and we quickly realized that we found a very special place.
This is not your regular tourist trap. You will meet some very authentic friendly people who are genuinely interested in meeting you as a traveler and a person.
You will learn about Weligama, about Sri Lanka and the people of Sri Lanka. You will learn about the local food and the way of life of the local people.
We watched a local guy harvest coconuts from a palm tree in the garden and enjoyed the fresh coconut water afterwards.
We joined Nalas family for the preparation of local food and had a delicious meal. Not just a meal it was more like a feast with a variety of different curries.

Nala is the perfect host for you if you really want to experience the authentic way of life of the people of Sri Lanka.
You cannot compare this to a regular stay in some anonymous hotel. This is the real life. You will like it, I promise.

This guesthouse is extremely clean, big room with enough space to relax, work. If you are into surfing there is an amazing reef break, jungle beach, about 5 minutes walking from the property. This beach is also amazing to sit, eat, and see sunsets at.

The owner Nalaka is extremely helpful and he will make sure that you are treated like family. Ask him anything and he will be sure to help you out!

And there is also a surprise, you will be able to see wild monkeys from your balcony which is something i could watch for hours.

I stayed at Nala’s home for 3 weeks and it was the best start to my Sri Lankan experience I could have imagined. The room was spacious with an en-suite bathroom and a big balcony with a view into the jungle (and all the neighbouring monkeys). The location is a short walk to the beautiful jungle beach. Nala took care to ensure the room was cleaned daily and also insisted I try lots of various teas, juices and fruits local to Sri Lanka! He and his family were so caring and really felt like a home away from home. I can highly recommend Nala’s homestay.

Stayed at Nala’s place for 6 nights. He was a genuin host with a lovely family. Nala helped us with everything we needed and gave us an insight in Sri Lankan culture and food. Juices and tea was served when we wanted, out of love. The room was clean and just what we needed. We will come back and visit his family next time in Sri Lanka!
