Simple Place

Simple Place is truly magical! My family and I had a ground floor apartment. It doesn't have a kitchen, but otherwise has everything needed for daily needs. The bathroom is spacious and modern. Particularly noteworthy is the warm light color of the lamps, which can also be dimmed for a cozy atmosphere. This is rather rare in Sri Lanka. The king-size beds are huge and comfortable. The outdoor area with the beach virtually right outside the door is an absolute highlight! Everything is insanely lovingly designed and in the evening discreetly and very atmospherically illuminated. The beach was a bit wild during our stay for swimming, but very beautiful. The sound of the sea was quite wonderful. Simple Place is also well located. To Mirissa or to Matara it is only a few minutes by tuk tuk. The icing on the cake are the hosts Nalin and Chamila with their adorable children! It is an indescribably loving family. We could turn to them for all our questions and needs. Nalin explored the area with us and their children borrowed toys for our children. They even offered us fresh coconuts regularly. It was not an average host-guest relationship, but rather friendship. We thank the warm family for this unforgettable vacation in beautiful Simple Place! Please stay as you are. Great place, went there with my friends. The rooms were clean and Nalin (owner,) was a good supportive guy. It's really a calm and nice place with a great view to enjoy a vacation.

Very good small and simple familial hotel at an affordable price, owners are lovely and very helpful if you need anything or need recommendations in activities, my room was nice with AC and a pretty bed.it’s directly on the beach and the view is amazing! The garden is cute and on the beach you can find sunbeds, chairs, a hamac, a swing and a barbecue area.

Great place to have a stay and hangout with friends and family. Friendly service. Much recommended.

Great location by the beach. 3.6 km (6min drive) to the famous mirissa beach. Upstair 3 rooms with small kitchen. Also 2 AC rooms in downstair. Ideal place by the beach for calm and relaxing holiday. BBQ facilities and music available. So good place to have a small scale beach party. Owner is very friendly.

Named as a simple place but really place fabulous place in mirissa to stay with beach view. Very friendly service. Nice food & nice beach view restaurant.

We got burglary while we were sleeping!

+ Location is great. The sea has big waves and strong current, but there’s small “swimming pool” made of rocks on the right side of the beach. We were watching turtles right from the beach behind the guesthouse, every morning and evening. It is close to Mirissa (300 LKR tuktuk), but I would recommend you to try the local food shops for rottis and hoppers. Amazing experience

+ The host are caring and nice. We’ve got coconut as a welcome drink, nice touch!

+ The beds are comfortable. Room was clean and smelled nice when we arrived.

- We were literaly afraid to take out our shoes in the bathroom, since the walls were full of mud. So we were taking shower in flip flops. It smells very bad, molded and rusted, which eventually got into our bedroom.

- There were ants all over the place. I even got ants on my leg while I was sitting on the toilet.

I’m not gonna put this as a fault of the guest house owner, but I must write this down. Also I feel weird looking back, that the night before we left, owner of the house came to us and wanted to get money sooner since “he went to buy a motorbike”, and if he buys it today, it will be 10000 LKR cheaper for him. So we went to the ATM and gave him the money. Later he came back, gave us the money back saying there was no good bike. And that night we’ve got a burglar in our room, while we were asleep. The thing is - we don’t like to sleep whole night with A/C turned on, so around 2am we wake up and open the windows every time. We left some empty bottles under the window, since my husband is very cautious and also friend of ours has the same experience from many years ago, so when the burglar came, it woke us up. At 3: 15 a.m. In the morning, there he was - silhouette of a stranger standing next to our bed. We jumped on him and started yelling, but he was so quick he ran away jumping out of the window he widely opened before. We’re very lucky that we woke up and he didn’t have a chance to steal anything, but please, be careful. The first thing he could get was a bag where we got our passports, credit cards and cameras. It was literally a second, and we could be in a big trouble. This was the last time we stayed in place without a safe. We didn’t get a good full sleep until the end of our vacation, since we were so afraid.
When we told the owner in the morning, they were shocked - saying it never happened before and they offered us one free night. We didn’t want to stay anymore because we felt very bad at the place. The owner although started checking CCTVs from other places around, we gave him description of the mans look and left to other city. I hope this was the first and last time it happened in the guesthouse, but please - shut your windows and try to stay in places where a safe is around.
Sri Lankan people are very nice, caring and warming, but there are bad guys taking advantage everywhere.
