This is an absolutely wonderful experience. Shan is warm, fun and generous, and we made an amazing mushroom curry with daal and coconut roti. Definitely worth a visit!

One of my favorite experiences across all of my travels. Shan is extremely polite, welcoming, and knowledgeable. His ability to communicate the Ayurvedic properties of all ingredients and the cooking process was exceptional. The end product was absolutely delicious. To anyone coming to Welingama, a trip should not be completed without visiting Welle Gedara.

What can I even say, this place touched my heart deeply. Shan and Nishan are part of our family now, rising souls of abundance and absolute love. The house is alive, a temple full of stories and ancestry. The food is the best we've had in our lives. Beautiful beach, animal friends. Shan is one of the nicest people we‘ve met in Sri Lanka. The cooking class and especially the food is just amazing! It was the best food we had in Sri Lanka! We loved the whole experience and would recommend everybody to join one of his classes.

Where can I start?
I first visited Shan's place one year ago, on my first visit and week of Sri Lanka, and never thought I would make a friend for life on that day!

Not only was I amazed by his food, and local ingredients but also his passion for cooking and for serving others. I have never met a more selfless and kind person in my life. Nishan, who is part of this beautiful family and Shan, instantly became like my own blood!
Within the first week of knowing each other we went for his cousin's wedding, and after this, our story continued.
After returning 6 months later, he was still the kind and hardworking person, and this time, I had the opportunity to stay in his homestay for one and a half months with my father.

I was able to taste his delicious food every day, learn his recipes, heal with his medicine, but mos importantly, get full of their contagious magical energy both Nishan and Shan, opened the doors of their home, and I was truly able to see through.

The love they have poured into this place, and Shan wanting to preserve his family's essence is reflected in everything he does.

More than eating his food, you are healing with it. You are leaving lighter and happier from when you first arrived. You start seeing life and foods differently by just being around them.

He makes all the spices himself, makes coconut milk from scratch and really is concern about only using home-grown and local products, gluten free and vegan goodness.

I was fortunate enough to meet many of his customers coming to his restaurant and was so amazed about the people he attracts and their wholesome reactions?

If you want to feel like home and really connect, this is the place to come

Lovely house with a lot of history and charm. The food is very healthy, tasty and local. The owner is sweet and he knows a lot about cooking. It is definitely the best restaurant in Waligama

The food here absolutely incredible and the best I had during my 3 months visit to Sri Lanka. I was fortunate enough to have been living just around the corner from Welle Gedara restaurant, so I was there to enjoy the home cooked food atleast twice a week.

The delicious and nutritious food is made with love and care by Shan, who is the lovely gentleman who owns the place.

Thank you for your hospitality and your warm energy, my friend. I hope to see you again soon if/when I return back to the incredibly beautiful Sri Lanka ️?

Absolutely loved the experience eating here-vegan, family style dining, all the grandmothers recipe. You can tell there is passion and pride in his work. When you eat here, there are set dishes that will be served that day. Water, coconut drink and tea included. We paid 1300 per
Person. They also offer daily ayuvedic cooking classes at noon, at time of writing

I went there by coincidence, just walking down the street, looking to have lunch. Unfortunately the place was undergoing renovation, so not operating at that time but the owner still offered me a delicious meal - for free! I was blown away by his hospitality and kindness. Thank you so much again
If you're in Weligama you should definitely check out this place once they are finished renovating (not sure when this will be - I was there mid of December)

Delicious vegetarian food. Pancakes, salads, soup, sweets, juice everything were amazing. Friendly atmosphere makes you stop and enjoy the moment.

We went to Shans place 2 times for dinner. Both times we were blown away by the flavors of his food! Everything was fresh and extremely tasty, also very healthy. You will feel great after the meal:)

What a lovely place and astonishing atmosphere! Although we aren’t really vegan we visited Shan because of a suggestion and had thus amazing and fresh organic vegan food from his own garden - the experience he gave us is unique - Shan is a real artist! Thank you Shan for that mind blowing and very warm hospitality! We enjoyed every second!

Best food experience in Sri Lanka by far! It doesn't get more Sri Lankan than this. Generations of recipes for you to learn and enjoy. All produce are hand picked from the garden and jungle. Love love love!

Shan's place does delicious vegan, gluten free and refined sugar free food. Some of the most creative and flavourful dishes I have ever experienced.

I highly recommend any of the veg pizzas - unlike anything else you will have ever eaten. Everything is made from scratch and many ingredients are grown in Shan's garden. All of the rice and curries are divine!

The decor is quirky and adds to the whole experience, Shan is a lovely guy and a wonderful host. He also makes incredible tea and baked goods. Do not pass up an opportunity to visit.
