Great spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing. Stable and reliable winds. When staying in the resorts down wind you need a lift by boat to the other side of the lagoon. De Silva rents good Tabou boards and kitesurf stuff. Not cheap. The sails are a not so great and poorly tuned.

This is one of the best places I have a chance to kitesurf. Highly recommended for beginners but also experienced kiters. The water is mostly shallow, you should only be aware of fish nets. There is plenty of space. Water is sometimes choppy and the wind happens to be gusty.

The best kite surfing spot in the island. Kite surfers from all around the world come here to kite surf. Around the bay there are small hotels, villas and cabana. So it won’t be hard to find accommodation for people who visit there.

Kalpitiya is very dirty and overrated. There are piles of plastic everywhere, sometimes dead animals rotting on the beach, and nobody is taking care of this. Winds are very gusty (we stayed for 3 weeks in August). Food options are very limited and there is nothing else to do in the area besides kitesurfing.

Probably the most well-known kite spot in Sri Lanka. Infrastructure has been improving (even has an ice cream tuktuk now). Gets quite busy during the season and the water is very salty. Winds are reliable, but can be quite gusty (summer months). The northern part of the lagoon is better, though.

Had a wonderful off road experience in sand route, kalpitiya. On our way, saw the kite surfers in the kalpiti lagoon. Loved to hav a kite surfing experience in kalpiti lagoon some other time.

The best place to kite surfing in srilanka and its a ideal place to beginners. Easily could find trainers and rent options. To reach to the lagoon can use ordinary vehicles. But if you wish to have a some fun you can drive through sand routes by off road vehicles. Wind is gusty on this area, but its fantastic condition for surfing.

Sri Lanka's pretty much only kite surfing destination. Backed by bunch of Professional kite surfing groups with 3 to 5 day beginners courses to more depth training & support is provided. Being more popular by European & American tourists for the sport it makes an ideal location for anyone to engage in the kits surfing activities here. Almost all hear round accommodation & service are provided at Kalpitiya and surrounding areas.
Other attractions would be the near by Wilpattu forest reserve, sea food, crabs, prawns & Noricholey power plant and wind mills situated because of the high wind conditions.

This place is famous for Para-Gliding in Sri Lanka.lots of tourists visit here for Para-Gliding. Land space is very narrow between the lagoon and the Indian Ocean.you dont require a 4WD to come to this place.however if you wish to travel to the tip of the Sand Route you need a 4WD.
