Manalvaari Sivan Kovil Situated 9km towards puttalam road from chilaw town, The Moolavar Is Ramalingeshwarar, and raja rajeshwari amman, this kovil has a great historical significance which is, lord Rama at the end of the Ravana war, on their way back, when they wanted to perform their rituals on behalf of Ravana and all Those who dimised, had created a shiva lingam using sands of mayawana river (now deduru oya) which led to the formation of this temple, and Lord rama had performed the rest of the ritual at rameshwaram india, that's the reason that the Moolavar of this temple is called in the name Ramalingeshwarar, currently a patrons from surrounding are maintaining and looking after this temple

So calm and peaceful place, conducted archanas in a good manner but the entrance fee SRLK Rs. 100/- is too high. Appreciated if the matter is taken care of.

Manavari Temple is dedicated to Lord Siva. Lord Rama, after killing Ravana, a bramin, to rid himself of the Bramha Hasthi Dosam, (a curse,) prayed to Lord Siva, and was instructed to install five Lingams. This was the first, and was made by rama by his own hands using the soil from the pond nearby. The second one is in Rameshwaram.

A very historical temple from Ramayana times. The Shivalingam here is made by Lord Rama using Mud (mud or sand in tamil is mannu). Hence the name Manavari temple. An hidden gem. Less popular because of civil war that was prevailing and restriction imposed to visit this place
