Wilpattu House reviews
15 We are people Who Can adapt to almost everything, but everyone has It limits. We had an awful stay, our room was full of frogs, insects, dirt andcouldnt even take a shower since the water didnt run.
The owner was aggressive and messed up by cheating us on the tours, dinner and breakfast.
We thought It could be a sporadic problem but after sharing the experience with the neighbours It seems everybody dislike him.
Check the photos.
Amazing knowledged, friendly and funny host with history know how. The place is at the river, quiet and peaceful. Don't expect a clean hotel conditions place! The charm comes from the urban environment. We stayed the bungalow and enjoyed the firefights. Host can arrange not overpriced tours for the national park.
Very pleasant little cottages to stay. Calm and relaxing area. This is situated around 28 kms from the Puttalam town towards Eluwankulama.
There are 3 rooms with very basic facilities but admit to it that they are clean. The rooms are more of like little cottages. The land is very scenic and full of fruits like jambu, ambilla, cherry, guava cashew. You can see peacocks and monkeys coming close to the land.
The owner Mr. Sereno is a wonderfull energetic person who is very freindly and will take care of every aspects you need. He has a thorough knowledge about the area and he will explain you every nook and corner of Wilpattu and the whole island.
There is about 4kms to the Wilpattu National park entrance and you can even contact safari jeeps from wilpattu house. You can have cool bath from the river beside and Sereno will take care of everything on your way there. Mr. Sereno the owner and the care taker is the wonderful guy I've ever met. You can have home made meals from Kuveni Kumari's (Kumari akka) place who is having another cottages (Araliya Inn) infront of wilpattu house.
+Very good location next to national park
The owner is very nice person and very helpful with perfect English. The dinner was also good. The swimming in the river was perfect!
-The room is very very basic. The cleanless is not at very best level. The cottage construction is open for all the insects and small animals from outside. We had more than 5 small frogs inside the toilet but they are friendly. But you will pee on them. We also “enjoyed” other kinds of insects there. There is not many possibilities to eat except the place at the property. The food there is more expensive than at other places in Sri Lanka. I could recommend the accomodation just for safari-style guests.
Wow amazing jungle house.in the night it's peacefull, authentic food from kumari and good people.and the beautiful walk and lake

Stayed with family on 12.08.2018 (Araliya inn, the new cottages of wilpattu house), a fair place to stay, jst few minutes away from wilpattu entrance at A32 road. Compared to the prices the place is great. The attitude and the service of owner, "kumari akka" is great.
Sereno and Kumari were great hosts. They were very friendly and offered us great amount of help and service (food). The accommodation was very basic with bed and mosquito net, and a shower with no temperature adjusting options. (Slightly chilly, but comfortable enough) We had five meals with Kumari and they were simply great. They were very Sri Lankan and very filling. We could never finish the food as they come in big portions. We also arranged safaris with them and saw many animals. Overall a great experience and affordable rates.
Nice location for nature lovers with friendly and informative owner.we were traveling around the srilanka.owner gave us some more information about roads and places to visits.
I loved this place and the people who ran it, Sereno and Kumari. Sereno speaks perfect English and is a mine of information about Sri Lanka. Kumari is an amazing cook and will feed you genuine Sri Lankan home cooking. There is a swimming hole nearby which Serono will happily show you (see photo) and ample opportunity to do some birding. You may see other wildlife too, an Elephant knocked down a Coconut palm only a few yards from my bungalow one night, I heard nothing. Sereno can arrange a jeep to visit Wilpattu National Park which is close by and the reason many people come here. If you have a driver bringing you here make sure they know exactly were you are heading. They head towards the main entrance to the Park which is a considerable way away. Make sure they are taking you towards the West Entrance, probably best to have them phone Sereno or Kumari.
Moving to this side of Sri Lanka we knew things would be very different as not so long ago a terrible war was happening.
Right under the overwhelming Wilpattu National Park lies a tiny village with Wilpattu House. Very friendly and energetic owner Sereno and his fantastic co-host Kumari give you a warm welcome. Amazing home cooked dinner. Never tasted this before!
They took us to the river to swim and spot birds and the beautiful surroundings.
The cabins however are. Let me say in a realistic way. Dreadfull. Our cabin looked more like a torturechamber then a proper room. We forgave this experience as the rest of our stay was so fine. You will be sharing your room with gekko's, frogs and bats. A true experience. There is no wifi. Even if your booking app says there is.
The location is excellent for visiting the park and. Do only HALF A DAY. A whole day is 12 hours inside a very uncomfortable jeep. Moreover. Wildlife is mostly seen early morning. End of the day you have to leave so not much of wildlife will be seen in the second part of the day.
We had a lovely stay at Sereno's and Kumari's place! Wilpattu House is a basic accommodation but the hosts make this experience just wonderful, are offering home-cooked dinner and other meals and can even organize some safari for you!
The perfect place if you appreciate tranquility, delicious home-cooked meals, exploring nature and getting close to the locals!
Exactly what we were expecting. Simple rooms but you don't stay here because of the rooms you stay to get a truly local experience and the wilpattu safari park. Serono and kumari are excellent hosts full of local information and kumari is a excellent cook! Helped with organising taxis and the safari for a great price. Would come back again. Good luck with everything
I stayed at Wilpattu House for two nights. Sereno and Kumari are excellent hosts. Sereno seems to know a lot about Sri Lankan history and Kumari knows right spots to find wild animals; especially wild elephants. They took us deep into the Wipattu National Park and we spotted a horde of elephants. Food was great and we had a wonderful time.
Secluded 6 acre's of land. Cheap and beautiful. There is a river close by. The rooms are small but convenient. The owners are very helpful. If you want a Srilankan experience I would definitely recommend this place.
