My Little Rest

We spent 5 weeks at Musthafa’s My Little Rest and enjoyed our stay. The house looks as pictured - there are 3 bedrooms; each bedroom has its own bathroom and 2 bedrooms have an AC. There are two fans which makes hanging out in the living room or cooking in the kitchen more pleasant since it can get hot. The furniture is sufficient - for those working while traveling, there are desks and chairs that can be easily moved.

Musthafa and his family cleaned the yard and took out the trash for us regularly. We asked to have a clothing line put up to dry our clothes and a line was put up the next day. Extra sheets were initially provided however we requested additional linens as we prefer to change weekly.

We cooked 3 meals almost every day, so the kitchen was used a lot. The kitchen has 1 burner but it’s manageable as we have cooked soups, curries, and more! The sink and counter is low - when chopping vegetables, I would pull up a chair to make it more comfortable. The kitchen is equipped with the basics, however, we requested bowls and a coconut grater and Musthafa’s family was quick to lend them to us. We were also allowed to pick curry leaves from the yard:)

Keeping the windows/doors closed and the fans on limits the amount of mosquitoes in the house. And like any other tropical climate, avoid leaving food out to prevent insects.

Location is central to surf, however, you will need transportation. I found a woman across the street who offers same day laundry service at a good price. I would advise shopping for groceries, vegetables, fruit, and small eats in Pottuvil since it’s cheaper. There are other great restaurants and shops on the main road if you prefer the convenience. Our stay has overall been quiet - street noise and traffic is very faint when you’re indoors, at most you will hear monkeys in the evening and birds in the early morning.

Musthafa’s family has been responsive and pleasant hosts. They have gone out of their way to help us with many things outside of the house. I had a sprained ankle and Musthafa’s aunt let me borrow her massaging oil. The zipper to our surfboard bag broke while in transit and Musthafa’s dad helped us get it fixed.

We stayed at this lovely house for 1 month. We enjoyed the spacious rooms, the nice garden and the great location. Communication with the hosts was quick and efficient. Would recommend for your stay in Arugam Bay!
