Dunes Unawatuna Hotel

Showed us a completely muddy room, smelled like rotten with and dirty af for 45$ hahahah… sorry fail

I’m writing from room No. 3, at first the place seemed a little boring after a large hotel with a swimming pool, but then you get into the atmosphere. In the morning the peacock and monkeys come. Breakfast is simply beyond words, very tasty. The staff is very friendly.

Stayed there for 3 nights. It’s an eco friendly hotel. You can enjoy the greenery. The architecture of this property feels like home.

Great little safe haven off the busy streets of unawatuna. Great staff and comfortable rooms.

Very nice hotel in the busy street to the beach.
Hotel is slightly set back from the road. It is super quiet there. Nice place for breakfast overlooking the garden.
Very spacious room with king size bed.
Good WiFi, shower and air conditioning.

The hotel is on the street leading to Unawatuna beach, while the area is separate and very picturesque. We had the complete impression that we were living in the jungle. We had breakfast watching palm squirrels and the cutest monkeys having breakfast, and woke up to the “singing” of peacocks.
But we must be prepared for such a neighborhood.
The breakfasts are very tasty and large (people from other hotels came to us for breakfast).
The rooms in ethnic style are comfortable, stylish, clean (cleaned and towels changed every day).
The staff has a special respect - they are very attentive and caring, they have all the services necessary for a relaxing holiday.

We had very good experience to stay in this hotel several times and will come again. Comfortable and clean rooms with everything necessary for staying and for visiting beach, as it presented on the photos. Friendly and very helpful stuff.
Jungle view with many animals and birds make the place unique. Recommendation

Rooms and garden are beautiful but it’s a very noisy hotel. I was literally hearing every words of my neighbors, and there was also no isolation with the street that is very animated.
They provided hear plugs in the room so it’s definitely not an isolated problem.breakfast was good, but bad value compared with the country. They were cheap on fruit plates also.

A beautiful and tranquil space to relax in the middle of Unawatuna. The rooms are well decorated, clean and have all the amenities you need. The staff are excellent and are genuinely happy to help you with your stay. The manager is always happy to see you and will give you the best advice on what to see and do, including where you need to be careful while out and about.

Couldn't believe this little paradise is located off the market Street in Unawatuna. Some 15m away from the main road and you are transported into a little jungle paradise.

The rooms and the overall vibe of the place is very relaxed, plenty of chairs and loungers to just enjoy your time. The long is gone to many interesting frogs, birds and join fish.

The rooms are immaculate with an environmental consciousness. Very stylish, comfortable and clean.

The only downside we faced was that in bottom rooms you may hear your neighbours from above as the overall construction is light.

Everything was amaizing, so many details gays were carrying for, starting with great breakfast, ending to beautiful garden

I really liked this Hotel. We walked in to see the rooms and then stayed 2 nights. Price-performance was great. The hotel has a extraordinary location as you can reach the main „tourist-street“ with all the restaurants, shops and beach. But then on the other hand its a quiet location with a beautiful and big garden where many animals live where you can come down and relax from the noisy city.

The room was very clean including the provided towels. Shower, Sink, AC and other appliances were quite new and good quality.

Amazing. Look no further, this is the place to stay. A nature oasis in the heart of unawatuna. Loads of thoughtful touches such including stacks of fresh beach towels in bags ready to take to the beach, toiletries, welcome juices, daily drinking water in the room.the list goes on. For the price this place is very reasonable. Food is great. The building is artichect designed and built using materials with eco credentials. The garden is lush and well maintained with wonderful trees and a lake. It's full of birds and other wildlife. The owner Gayan is a great guy and likewise his manager. It was good to meet them and enjoy their hospitality
They deserve a lot of credit for what they've created here.

Schönes Hotel, alles sehr sauber, gute Lage, nettes Personal. Es gibt extra Strandtücher und extra Lampen für die Powercuts. Gute Restaurants in der Nähe. Im Garten haben wir sehr seltene schwarze Affen gesichtet.
Das Frühstück hat noch etwas Luft nach oben, ist je nach Gericht sehr basic und einfach gehalten - trotzdem aber lecker. Da kann man aber definitiv noch was rausholen. Wenn das noch einen feinschliff bekommt, wäre es perfekt:)

Loved staying at Dunes, everything about it is perfect. The place is beautiful and peaceful, yet located just seconds away from all the restaurants, bars and beach.

The Sri Lanka breakfast here was incredible here, so even if your not staying, come for the food.

Will be back!

Amazing place The owner Gayan was super friendly and accommodating. The staff were quite pleasant. The room and bathroom were both clean and comfortable. I especially loved the eco-friendly aspect of Dunes. Also loved the wonderful garden with its lovely swing and pond ️ We didn't have meals here, so I cannot comment on that, but they offered soft drinks and had tea in the room. The only downside is that the rooms don't block out the noise from outside, so we had to endure the loud noise from the street the whole time we were there. Overall, it's a lovely piece of paradise hidden amid the hubbub of a busy street. Looking forward to staying here again.

Location is really nice. It's very central and close to the beach and restaurants, but still in a very quiet and green area. The garden is very peaceful.

Breakfast was perfect. Very delicious and extensive.

Staff members were really friendly and did their utmost to make us feel comfortable and provide us with everything we could possibly need.

Best stay in Sri Lanka so far!

We loved the location of the place as it was super quiet and exactly what we valued. View into the nature and spotting monkeys in the morning. The room was super nice and spacious - thx again for the upgrade.

Really just an amazing place, 100% as shown in the photos and the other positive reviews (even better honestly). The garden is beaut and huge even though it is close to the beach, the owner and staff are amazing, the rooms incredible with such a personal touch and attention to detail and on top of that rooms, breakfast, transfers etc were also proved very generously priced and affordable. There should be more places like this in the world to stay at, please don’t change a anything and all the best of luck and success for the future to Gayan and his team!
