Dunes Unawatuna Hotel reviews
39Amazing jungle atmosphere with monkeys on the backyard. Very close to the beach and other tourist spots.
This is a quiet, clean hotel with very high standard in everything. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. A five min walk to the beach, is well worth it, to spend time in the beautifull garden, feeding one or two monkeys. Top class!
A beautiful and tranquil space to relax in the middle of Unawatuna. The rooms are well decorated, clean and have all the amenities you need. The staff are excellent and are genuinely happy to help you with your stay. The manager is always happy to see you and will give you the best advice on what to see and do, including where you need to be careful while out and about. Breakfast is a must! And you'll often be surrounded by all types of wildlife while enjoying your morning coffee.
Excellent hotel. The service, food, rooms, cleanliness, location everything was perfect. Highly recommended will definitely come back
I arrived with a booking via a well known booking company but anyhow they messed it up. The manager instead was very helpful and understanding and even he was busy with other guests checking out he offered me a beautiful room with balcony and just solved the problem within a short time. Now I am relaxing on the balcony and enjoying this beautiful garden view and listen to the sound of nature. The whole house and the rooms are extraordinary furnished and decorated. Also you find a water kettle, fridge, good quiet air con and a fan, nice big towels, shower creme and hair dryer.and some more handy stuff. The garden is so beautiful with the pond and tropical flowers, the big tree and squirrels and birds and, if course Simba, the cute big superfriendly Sheppard dog. Well, I love this place, which is only 3 minutes of the beach, and can recommend it with the best conscience. 12 of 10
The place is very beautiful, its quiet and has a great garden. Further the rooms are very pretty. Breakfast is delicious and price value great.

My girlfriend and I booked for four nights at the "Dunes".
The hotel enchants with a beautiful and cozy design, central location and at the same time nature-loving tranquility. In addition, much emphasis is placed on cleanliness.
The owner and the staff convey a family atmosphere and do a great job.
The breakfast is also super tasty, rich and varied.
At the Dunes, you simply feel at home. We can highly recommend it and are already looking forward to our next visit!
Dunes is the hidden gem of Unawatuna! I have been a guest here many times and I will keep coming back because of the amazing Sri Lankan architecture, service and the fact that it is away from the hustle bustle of Unawatuna beach. They have yummy breakfast options and mornings with coffee & breakfast are especially nice in their cozy garden.
Stay for a couple of nights at least, you won't regret it!
In a location where mass commercialisation of a natural beauty spot has led to hotels being built upon hotels; where lush vegetation has made way for tawdry concrete blocks, it was refreshing to wake up every morning to the haven of nature that is Dunes' garden. During our short stay we were lucky to find Indian pond terrapins, a plethora of avian life and the occasional monitor lizard as we sat outside the rustically designed hotel building.
This alone should be enough reason to at least check the place out but the 'pros' don't stop there: The rooms are thoughtfully designed, the beds are incredibly comfy, the amenities provided are more than enough for a short or long stay and the owner, Gayan, is always on hand to help should any problems arise.
It's rare to come across a hotel these days where 'the soul' is still intact; if you understand what I mean by that then I guarantee your review will be just as positive as mine is.
Pet friendly.and amazing place to stay.management is super nice and the room are really clean and well maintained. Highly recommended
I was there for two nights with my husband, and we both truly loved the stay there. 10 minute walk to the beach, great hospitality, cozy rooms, calm and quiet environment! Above everything the lush green inside the hotel was the best thing!
Very lovely place, the room was large, good laundry service, quiet environment while still being very close to the main road. The staff are not short of amazing! The only reason I did not give it the fifth star is because the ceiling fan was VERY weak and not situated next to the bed so it is diffcult to fall asleep.
A really lovely hotel right on a buzzy street in Unawatuna, right by the beach. Great rooms, nicely decorated, very helpful staff - especially the owner - and generous, tasty breakfast. Beautiful garden with a big pond and lots of visiting wildlife to look at. Staff can arrange your transport to various places including Galle Fort for a fixed price which is super convenient. All in all a very pleasant stay, just be aware that the rooms in the main building of the hotel are sort of open and the dividing walls have small gaps at the sides, so you can hear your neighbours talking/moving around/snoring! Earplugs are provided.
I stayed here a few years ago now. Kept meaning to get round to writing a review. Gayan really helped me out one day when I was struggeling to find a room anywhere in Unawatuna. He found a room for me at his place and our stay was fantastic. Lovely peaceful place and really helpful suggestions and advice for things to do nearby. I remember I promised Gayan I would write a review and although about 3 years late I'm happy I stuck to my word.
Best of the best. Our stay at the Dunes hotel was awesome. The staff is really friendly and helpful, rooms were extremely clean and spacious and the garden is an oasis in the middle of Unawatuna. A 5 min walk to the beach. Lots of book to read available in the hotel.
Amazing
Stayed here multiple times over the past few years. It's clean, peaceful and comfortable. They also serve up a satisfying breakfast. All at affordable prices.
We loved this green oasis in the middle of Unawatuna. Such a calm, beautiful and relaxed place. The garden is wonderful, the rooms super cozy, spacious and done with much love for details. The bathroom was by far the best we had in Sri Lanka. The hotel has an awesome location, 2 minutes walking to the beach, shops and restaurants in the same street. The staff is very friendly and always happy to help. What we really appreciated: beach towels are provided for free, we loved this! Food is also delicious - we had a perfect stay and can highly recommend to everyone!
One of the best accommodations we had in our 3 week long Sri Lanka visit. Staff is great, hotel is eco friendly, rooms are clean, breakfast is good and varies. 5 minute walk to the main beach. You can walk 30 minutes to the jungle beach, which is a hidden paradise away from the crowd, see picture.
This place is a sanctuary in the centre of it all. We had a wonderful stay in a spotlessly clean and very comfortable room. The breakfast was great and the hosts were incredibly helpful. What's more I spotted a monkey from my balcony sitting in the coconut trees. Was a perfect place for visiting Unawatuna.
