Kalapuwa Resort

We had a great time in Kalapuwa resort for 2 nights. I was searching internet for a stay near Madu river as we arranged a river safari to see mangroves. I got Jeewana's number and when I called for the details he sent me the pictures and details via Whatsapp. It is located facing the small lake of Madu river, Randombe lake which gives you very nice view of the lake. We watched sun setting over the lake and it was amazing. Resort ambiance is very natural and homely. And the food cooked by Wimalasiri uncle was so good. Jeewana and Wimalsiri uncle both were very helpful and kind. Jeewana even dropped us at railway station. We had a very relaxing weekend there. If you need some getaway from the busy life and want to be close to nature while relaxing or you are visiting Madu river Ramsar site mangroves and need a place to stay, Kalapuwa is a good choice. A super friendly host Jeevan who does so much to please his guests. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and plenty of it. Plenty to do in the area including kayaking from the property. A very peaceful and calm environment. Absolutely loved it

This place has energy! Very nice and quiet place to stay. Owner took care of everything we needed and helped us with everything. Took care of boat trip, tuk tuk, motorcycle rent etc. If something was needed, then Givana took care of everything. Givana is a smart and friendly guy with who we managed to share thoughts every evening. If you are looking nice hotel with friendly stuff next to the lake, then this is the place you need to stay at for sure.

It’s a great place to relax, loved the river view room, very friendly/ accommodating staff and delicious food, had an amazing time.

Owner has given the same date for multiple groups. Since the other groups had few foreigners, they asked us to come next week. Had a really bad experience since they inform us this day before the booked date. Really unprofessional.

Poor management. They will give priority to foreigners. If you really want to go to this place make sure there are no bookings for the same date. They did the same for us and asked us to change our dates.

Just before the day we arrive owner was telling he has missed our booking, although we have paid the advance payment and contacted him few times before that. Very irresponsible and he was asking us to change our date since it’s hard him to convince the other party. We booked the entire villa for the weekend and because of this irresponsible manager we have to face a hard time in finding some other place. They should really learn their work ethics!

This place simply deserve 10 stars! Kalapuwa resort is the ideal place for you to enjoy true down south hospitality. The location, view, rooms, food and service is excellent. The owner Mr. Jeewana is the best host I have met so far. The moment we entered through the hotel to the moment he dropped us off the station, he went far and beyond to made our stay truly memorable. Rooms are clean and we'll kept with a spacious balcony over looking views of Madu river. Food portions are so big and yet we kept eating till the last bite as they were so yummy. I definitely gained few founds during our stay. Kayaks are complementary and that is something you should try! We will be back soon!

We have booked this entire place (5 bed rooms) for one night stay on 12th November 2022. We have payed the advance payment few weeks back. After paying the advance payment we contacted the owner of this property few times and he said booking is confirmed and there are no issues. We gave him a call on 11th 4.30 PM just to ask something related to food and early checking. At that time he said there are two other groups have also booked this place at the same date. He asked us to change our date to next week because he said it’s bit hard to convince other two groups to do the same. We refused it because we booked this place few weeks ago and it’s hard us to reschedule this to another week. Then he said he’ll arrange something and call us back in 30mins. Since he didn’t call us back we gave him a call and he again said us to change the date. Then we cancelled the entire booking. Management is completely irresponsible and didn’t had any clue about this multiple bookings. We were really frustrated about what happened because we were trying to arrange this trip from months. If you really value your time and money don’t go to this place. Not recommend at all. Owner and the management sucks. They will prioritize foreigners not locals.

Situated along the banks of Maadhu River it's about 20minutes drive from southern expressway. Peaceful, calm and quiet place. Rooms are spacious and clean. Friendly staff and tasty food. Features an outdoor pool will add much more relaxation. Kayaks and the boat ride along maadhu river is a must!

We stayed a great long weekend at this beautiful location. Me, my wife and 4 of our friends got one chalet and 2 deluxe rooms. The hotel location is absolutely wonderful, with elevated views overlooking the lagoon in a calm and peaceful surrounding. Hotel owner Jeewana was an excellent host, who personally looked into all our needs. He arranged a boat excursion in Madu River and a Friday dinner out to a local restaurant at beach, also arranged tuks for us to go back and forth. Rooms were clean, comfortable and pleasant. Infinity pool was lovely to dip in the mornings. Customised meals were tasty. Being animal lovers, we were pleasantly surprised to see Flika, the free roaming pony on the premises! Looking forward to go back for a longer stay probably to work remotely from this serene and absolute satisfying hotel.

Very nice waterfront hotel where you can have a good relaxing time. Not a very big hotel but having 6-8number of rooms. Most of the rooms are having a good view of Madhu river. It’s possible to catch boats directly from hotel premises to go in a boat ride to watch many scenic places and even to get a fish therapy. Food and hospitality in this hotel are excellent.

We spent two nights at Kalapuwa Resort as we were attending a friend’s wedding nearby in Balapitiya. Unfortunately I had an injury from the day before our stay and needed medical help. Jeewana was absolutely fantastic and incredibly generous with his time. He took my friend and I to the local hospital twice (!), translated for us, ensured I received the right care and we collected the correct medication. This was quite a stressful time as I was quite unwell but Jeewana reassured us and went above and beyond to look after us. I am incredibly grateful for his kindness.
Once I felt better, I was fortunately able to enjoy the resort. The infinity pool was very clean and overlooks the lake. You can use the resort’s kayaks on the lake and the room views are incredible. The rooms themselves were modern, clean and the beds very comfortable with reliable AC.
The food was delicious and they have great fresh juices.
100% would recommend staying at Kalapuwa resort, it’s a beautiful place, off the beaten track and Jeewana is an extremely good host.

This is truly a hidden gem! The place is super well maintained, and the views are amazing. You can relax at the pool and go kayaking. Also our beds were super comfy, we slept amazing in them.definitely recommend!

A fantastic place to stay if your intentions are to unwind and detach yourself from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Total tranquility and peace, made even better by the extent to which they’re willing to go to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Would have stayed longer if I could but I’ll certainly be coming back. If you want calm and serenity, look no further.

This place is amazing! The owner cares about you all the time, makes your stay nice and with pleasure. The lake, the hotel, the people, animals and nature are going to make feel you like in paradise. Everything is freshly new, silence and calm, clean and nice swimming pool. Good food. Clean and cousy rooms, wonderful view, good wifi!

Great place with amazing atmosohere. We also reallx loved watching the hundreds of flying foxes flying over the lake in the evening - unique experience!
