Nu-Vin Beach Hotel Ahangama

I hate writing bad reviews for the family owning this hotel and propably just want to make it work, but I would have wanted to have this information if I was thinking of booking this place. I will agree with many others, we got cancelled same day as we arrived because of eletricity. So when their taxi they provided us from Colombo arrived in 1am in Ahangama, we were not welcome to stay at their facility even if we booked months ago. The hotel they instead wanted to send us, did not let us in until 3am. With our jetlag the time for us was 5.30 in the morning, we had been awake for 22 hours straight and had to wait between 1-3am with our taxi driver (felt so sorry for him too). And this is because Coco sent us to different hotel but obviously didn't make sure their reception would stay awake for us. So this was our first time in Sri Lanka, it was in the middle of the night and Coco did not take responsibility or said they were sorry. And we had patiens and acted nice because we didn't really understand what was going on. So good luck to us finding a new hotel one day before NYE, since we did not accept the hotel they offered instead which was lower standard (what we thought then) and located 2km from the beach instead of at the beach. It took us a lot of energy trying to find another hotel during this time and everything good was fullybooked. After three days we were welcome to Coco and we got a small room with no hot water and it was insects all over the walls and furniture (and on our stuff) so when we left it was a relife and the rest of our journey in Sri Lanka was 10/10. The good thing about this place is the location, close to nice beaches and restaurants. It's very sad to do this review but I hope the family owning Coco will make changes for the better. Amazing atmosphere, right at the sea, no noise from the street and comfortable rooms and good breakfast. It’s family run, the family members are super helpful and will solve any question for you. Really trustworthy people! We will come back any time.
We tried 3 places in ahangama, this was by far the best.

Awesome place with lovely owners. Access to the beach is a little difficult because of rocks but fine.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Nu-Vin. The family who run it were happy to help with any issues.
We had a few issues with our booking and the aircon did switch off a few times but these issues were quickly fixed.
The room lacked a few basics (hangers, bedside tables and enough plug sockets) but other than that it was clean and the bed was very comfy. Our shower was hot and had enough pressure.
I would like to have had a more diverse breakfast as we had the same for 4 days and their paid menu had many more options. We did have lunch a few times and I must say the Kottu roti is divine! Also the fridge with cold beer and soft drinks to buy was really handy.
Bella the hotel dog was an absolute highlight, she loved to sit with us whilst we read our books as well as chasing away land monitors!
Overall a great stay in a great location for a reasonable price.

We stayed at Nu vin Beach Hotel for 10 days.

From the first moment we felt very comfortable. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. And there's a hotel dog (Bella - so lovely)

We liked the rooms, the food was excellent. There is absolutely nothing negative. We are already missing the time at Nu vin Beach and will be returning, hopefully very soon

A super friendly family welcome awaits you at this hotel. All rooms have great views into the spacious garden which in turn has direct access to the sea front. Our room was of a comfortable size with AC. The breakfasts are good, with a choice of Sri Lankan or Western. A great location for all the local surf spots!

Had a great stay at Nu-Vin hotel. The most helpful staff, amazing food (the prawn curry and chicken kothu are a must-eat!) and the gorgeous lawn with sea views. Not to mention the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the location is great - close to both the market area and all the surf points. Big thanks to the entire team.

This was our first stay at Nu-Vin hotel in Ahangama but our 5/6th trip to Ahangama over the years.
We come out here once a year for two weeks and have been staying at Villa Flo just down the road but it is being sold so i took the time on our trip in 2022 to look around for somewhere else to stay.
We are a group of longboard surfers from England and have been going away annually for 20 years now.
From the cold water of Morocco to the tropical waters of Bali, Barbados and now Sri Lanka.
The group sizes vary from 10-25 people, a mix group of male & female groups.
We need to be right on top of the beach with easy access to the sea and a choice of surf breaks to suit everyone’s ability.
Nu Vin Hotel is perfect for our needs as a group of any size and this has now become our home for two weeks every year.
We took over the Villa, the two Appartments and one double room in the main part of the hotel.
Mostly the trips are all male party’s so we have two sharing a room which makes it affordable for everyone, the rooms are mainly double bedded rooms so Nu - Vin went over & above to accommodate us and make sure there was two beds in each room.
A stones throw from the waters edge from anywhere in the garden so perfect for a dip in between surfs or sunbathing.
Easy access to four surfing breaks from beach to reef and even a point break.
As Ahangama grows at a quick pace more bars and restaurants open with friendly smiles and exquisite food on hand.
Situated at the start of Ahangama town it’s an easy walk into town for the shops / food /bars etc.
The family run hotel has a bar & serves lovely food.
Staff are very friendly and willing to help you with everything you need.
The rooms are cleaned impeccably, all the beds have mozi nets and most importantly Air Con….
With TuK Tuk’s everywhere you look every beach, bar & shop are easily reached.
Tea plantations, train rides, temples it has it all.
I would highly recommend this hotel as we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will be back again same time next year and the next.
The water quality here is superb and fantastic for snorkelling so bring your masks & flippers….

Chic little hotel, the rooms have a sea view, the staff is very friendly, the garden facing the sea has a stairway to the beach, we had a lovely stay here.

Valuable place for the what we paid, calm and safety environment. Rooms are small, but very clean.
Also owning family and staff was very friendly.
Highly recommended place.

An Exceptional Hotel which is so close to sea and lovely garden. Everything was clean and the whole hotel has been really well, specially huge garden. The sunset from the room was the most amazing thing I saw and the beautiful ocean view. I went on Udawalawa and Yala jeep safari and it was really adventurous and fun. Feeding small baby elephants was the lovely thing and I saw the Leopard. And breakfast was excellent and also the BBQ in evening was amazing. This is the most enjoyable stay in Sri Lanka!

This is a very secluded beautiful place!
The breakfasts were simple and very tasty.
The apartment was pretty neat and clean.
Beautiful solitary beach was very special.
There is also Dustin the cat and Bella the dog in the hotel, I played with them all the time:) Dustin is very serious while Bella is extremely cheerful.

This is very unique place. Our stay was really worth it. Infront of nuvin hotel you can find the best surf spots and you can walk along the beach to there. They have the best rice & curry, devilled chicken and also burgers. Staff was arrange us candlelight dinner and it was wow, I mean really wonderful. Staff was really helpful. Rooms are clean and have balcony and sea view. You can't see panaromic sea view with garden view like here in any other places. We come again here in next month also:)

Very Beautiful Hotel and friendly staff. Huge garden with nice ocean view is amazing. We stay long term here and their service was amazing. They have many delicious foods and also juices. They provide us everything what we need and staff doing amazing job. Really honest & helpful staff. Even everything expensive in other places, they have best fair prices for all. We had our best stay in nuvin beach hotel. Thank you for all kindness.

Very nice hotel run by locals, beachfront, big garden, very nice and friendly.

You definitely should try rise and curry at their restaurant- it is by far the best ever!

Great location. Fantastic hotel with a high standard of rooms, beds and cleaning. Everything was perfect they received us with a smile. It was great value for money!

Wow What a wonderful place! Staff is very friendly and theirs 3 Best Surfspots infront of the hotel! Really wonderful beach and you can see wonderful sunset from the room! Rooms are very clean andfoods are very delicious We'll definitely come here next time

The location was incredible! The owners more than lovely. They helped us whenever we asked. For us the staff and the location are the most important. The rooms are not the most modern, but wait until you walk outside. Amazing! Thanks a lot to the whole family:)

I have really enjoyed staying at the hotel. Amazing ocean views from your room, no traffic sounds but you can listen to the wild ocean: :) Coming back for sure!
