Fort Hammenhiel Resort

This is the solitary island where Rohana Wijeweera was imprisoned. Now this has 4 luxury rooms for Rs. 22000/= Full Board. Wijeweera's writing on the wall is still there. Paying Rs. 7500/=, you can become a prisoner to get prison experience.
This has a nice view. Both sunrise and sunset could be viewed. Calm and quiet place to relax. Run by the navy and the cafe caters to the visitors

Must visit place! Maintained by the Srilankan Navy. This used to be a prison. Still you can see and visit the prison cells. They also offer a Dutch prison experience (Not for me). The prison, where accommodation is provided, is in an island. Transport provided through a ferry. Tried the food at the restaurant. I would easily give 5/5. Very reasonable prices and the food was really good! The staff were very helpful and friendly. Plenty of parking available.

I will give 5 stars for the atmosphere and experience (boating & accommodation in the sea).
Good food but require an advance booking to ensure food is available. Bit expensive if you are local traveller.
Road to access this place is horrible

This is very nice place. But it is placed on abundant area. Duch time prison of Hammenhil is availalable in center of sea from this resort nearly 800m but boat charge is too much. Each person payouts upto 3500/= & other one resort food service charge is so high nearly 450/=

Nice place nice sunset but have to improve quality of foods, very good and excellent service given by Stuart’s and boat riding naval staff…

Really disappointing service. The food took so long to arrive and the LONG wait was certainly not worth it! Limited selection on the menu during lunch time, with no rice and curry option available at all! Can’t recommend the restaurant. But the accommodation at the fort itself looks lovely, and it seems that the staff takes a lot of trouble to keep their in-house guests comfortable.

It's a great scenic place with good customer service and good and tasty food. The boat trip to the fort cost you Rs. 3500/= and the Navy personals give you a good explanation and tour inside the fort. Truly worth the experience and the long journey there! Do visit it if you come to Jaffna!

We stopped here to use the beach and enjoy the sunshine.

Lovely location and excellent spot for relaxation. We stayed one night and absolutely loved every minute. Located on the karainagar island of Jaffna peninsula.
In terms of getting there, this location is accessible by vehicle direct only via one route as of Oct 2022. That is via jaffna to ponnaly and ponnalay bridge to karainagar. There is about a 3.5 km stretch just before ponnaly bridge junction from vadukoddai junction where the road is completely broken. Not advisable for cars. Best Alternative route is to come to vaddukodai junction and take a right turn towards north (on to B437) and after 1km, take a left turn on to B436 road towards ponnaly. This route goes through vaddukodai & moolai villages. The road is still broken there too but not as bad as the stretch from vaddukodai junction direct to ponnaly junction. Good luck.

One of the most peaceful experiences ive ever had. The views are pristine and beach is to die for. The food was also good and the staff was friendly. Excellent place to relax if youre in jaffna

This place had some hidden history which I didn't know. Restaurant had lovely food and great services provided.

Beautiful place, There is a fort on the island. You can go there by boat. Fees must be paid for the boat.

Hammenhiel fort is a very beautiful place and very impressive place. You can get rooms with luxary facility and resturant facility. I highly recommend you to visit this place to spend and enjoy.

Maintained by SL navy officers. Really loved the experience here. Very calm and nice environment. Clean and tidy as you could expect from any military managed enterprise. Delicious food and served hot with nice presentation. This is very nice resort maintained by the Sri Lankan Navy forces. The actual hotel is in the small island where you have to take a ferry to go. This once used to be a cell to hold prisoners now turned to a resort. Nicely maintained and good view through out. Historically very important too.

The location is remote and the road is terrible. Prices are reasonable and the service is good.
They serve pork and Mutton which is great.

A well managed restaurant by Sri Lanka Navy. Clean and tidy as you could expect from any military managed enterprise. Delicious food and served hot with nice presentation. No reservation required (for small groups) for dine in, just the identification of the main guest. The kitchen closes at 2130, so the orders have to be places before that.

Wonderful little fort in the Indian Ocean, but both roads to Karainagar are quite similar to the landscape in Mars.
