You will waste your 30 Rupees per person if you go with your family. It's only for the couples. Not recommended at all.

There are so many couples in this park all the time. It is not a suitable place dor kids. But it has a good view.

The Royal Palace Park, also known as Wales Park,  Wace Park or Rajawasala Park, is a small park on top a small hill in the heart of the city of Kandy, that overlooks Kandy Lake and most of the city. Established by King Sri Vikrama Rajasinha of Sri Lanka it was renamed as Wales Park in honor of the Prince of Wales by the British.

The hill, where the park is currently situated, was known as Castle Hill by the British, as it was the site of the palace of Konappu Bandara, who ruled as Vimaladharmasuriya I of Kandy from 1590 to 1604.

Herbert Wace,  CMG  (1851–1906), the Government Agent of the Central Province and acting Colonial Secretary, arranged for this neglected site to be restored, and a park be built there in 1880.

In the park is a Japanese field gun which was captured by the British 14th Army in Burma during World War II and presented to the City of Kandy by Lord Mountbatten,  Supreme Allied Commander – South East Asia Theatre.

Very calm place to stay freely.fresh air and calm environment. Clean and clear foot roads with fascinating natural resources. That was a garden owned by queen of Sri wicrama rajasinghe (the last king in Sri Lanka). Well planned park with adequate space for walk. It has a big diversity of plants. Whenever you travel kandy, dont forget to go to the park. Enjoy the nature. Enjoy the beauty of Kandy city. Nice view. You can see complete kandy town from there. You better go in the evening and stay till lights on in the city to see the beauty of Kandy.

Nice garden, but completely in the hands of local couples. Felt a bit out of place walking around here.

Small park in the middle of the Kandy town, just 5 minutes walk from the city center. Cool and calm place, but nothing much to see there.

The park is small, inside there's the first gun that the Britain's bought to Sri Lanka for the war other than that not the garden is maintained well. The most embarrassing thing is that there's couples all over the place where you would have to think twice to take your children for a place like this. Please behave well if you're visiting a place like this so that not only couples, everyone could visit places.

We were told the entry fee was 100 rupees. But 2 minutes later, the fee increased to 200 rupees. From the reviews below, it is mentioned the locals only pay 30 rupees. The greed of the park security knows no bounds.
We were also told we couldn't park in the parking slot in front of the park (nevermind that there is already a tuk tuk parked there), but somewhere at the back along the road. It didn't look like a safe place to park our car without getting it scratched.
The staff here hates foreigners (read below for another negative experience by foreigners like us). We decided not to put up with the nonsense and left. The park is so small anyway, with not much to see.

Superb small park its really worth for 30 rupees. I have spend my whole evening here with my friends. I had a chance to visit only one time. But hopefully i will visit again. This is one of the famous land mark in Nuwara Eliya. If you are a tourist you can't avoid this place. But you don't need to spend one whine day here. Their restaurant is very clean and affordable.

Beautiful small park. Worth for Rs. 30/= ticket. But the problem is you will see lots of young couples everywhere. So i don't recommend you to go with your children. Its totally okay if you two are a couple. Go and have some fun on the top of Kandy city.

A haven for the courting couples of Kandy which detracted from the pleasant surroundings. 100 Rupees entrance for foreigners, didn't offer the good views that this former castle location I hoped would have.

Probably the only place in Sri Lanka where you can find a Type 4 15cm Howitzer, used by Imperial Japanese Army during World War II.
The gun in display here had been captured in Burma and then donated to this park by Lord Louis Mountbatten (Supreme Allied Commander of South East Asia Command, whose HQ was located in Kandy during the latter part of World War II)
