The Palmyrah House

The entire stay was excellent including the accommodations, food etc. Due to the bad weather, some of the tracks to the rooms were flooded but the management had taken required actions on it to minimize the difficulties. Overall, I will highly recommend this.

We spent a night at the Palmyrah on the way to Jaffna. We have stayed here before. This hotel is probably the only one in Mannar island that gives the bird watcher traveller luxury for those looking for ambience, peace and quiet and great food. Chef Kamal is a culinary star when we talk about authentic food. Indika, the assistant manager and naturalist was a treasure trove of knowledge about bird migration. Hats off to the rest of the staff, Subash and his team, who made our stay comfortable despite the flood situation. We'll done all!

Wonderful, this is quite possibly the best relaxing hotel on Mannar Island. They have excellent rooms and cabins inside a small jungle with connecting pathways. Excellent place for stargazing. Menu has very limited choices but the food was very tasty. Service was also decent. They arrange guided tours for flamingo watching during the season.

Only downside we had was low water pressure on upper floor rooms. Definitely recommend for staying if you ever visit Mannar.

Wow! A quiet motel in a beautiful setting that is out of the way.nice rooms, excellent service. Excellent local cuisine, but western cuisine requires improvement. Would undoubtedly visit again. Well-designed cabana/house layout, beautiful pool, games room with pool and darts, fitness centre, library, and paths through the forest. Simply wonderful.

I stayed at Palmyrah House for one night on the 7th January.
The rooms were exquisite. Beautifully decorated and could not see anything in adequate. However the air conditioner kept switching off every 25 miinutes and did not cool at all. I woke up constantly as it got so stuffy and hot. Next morning when Icomplaned one staff member came and said the remote was messed up by the previous occupant.when paying my bill I asked them to give a discount because I booked an air conditioned room and did not have one. The management came back saying they couldn't do that. The same thing happened in my friends room as well. I like to warn a y new guests to make sure the AC IS WORKING BEFORE THEY TURN ON FOR THE NIGHT.
I wish to slso state that the meals were very mediocre too.

The best hotel in Mannar without a doubt. Staff is friendly and supportive. Manager Mr. Indika is a very friendly person with good knowledge of birds and wildlife.

Calm and quiet place. Very friendly and attentive staff. Food was delicious. They don’t waste food unnecessarily. That’s what me and my wife noticed during the short period we were with them. They provide bicycles free if you want to have a ride and there is a walk way through the swamp for visitors who like to see birds. Staying in this hotel is very convenient for bird watchers in Mannar and for those who hope to explore the island. We had a wonderful time in this hotel though it was a short one. The other feature we liked was that the tips weren’t collected individually. All the tips given were shared equally among the staff.

The Palmirah House

Location:
This property is situated in the Mannar Island. Has to go through the army check point between the mainland and the island each time you go pass. They check the bags on the way out each time you go out from the island to the mainland. So do not take bags with you unless they are really needed when you are going between the Island and the main land. This place has ample parking.

Facilities:
This is very well planned and there is a main restaurant, library, waling path, gym, etc as facilities. The library has a good collection of books about the flora and fauna of the area. The place is magical with a sky full of stars in the night with very less light pollution. There is a very good outside pool also.

Rooms:
The rooms are modern and very clean. Has a very good ambiance in the rooms. The bed is comfortable. The room has tea and coffee making facilities. They are laid out in a manner the privacy of the guests is well preserved.

Garden:
There is a vast garden area. There is a track running through the same. If you walk the same in the early morning you will be treated by many singing birds.

Food:
Food was ample and tasty. The Tamil Foods of the hotel are very tasty.

Service:
The service provided by the hotel is very good. We wanted to go to see the Flamingo Birds who are in the Mannar Lagoon and the hotel provided a very expensive binoculars free of charge to us knowing that the birds are in the middle of the lagoon and without a binocular we cannot see them. They arranged us a Gide for the journey too. She was also very helpful. The manager Sathya and all the other staff members are also very good. They went out of their way to help us. My wife wanted to take some photos of the star trails at night and one staff member volunteered to show us the best place and even to be with us until we take the photos. A curfew was imposed on the last day of our visit and the manger helped us in getting the clearance to leave the place also. We also wanted to take photos of the sun rise and the manger offered to get the gates open to their sister hotel, which is closed and located at the edge of the island, for us to take the photos. Unfortunately, we could not go there due to the curfew.

Overall:
I could recommend this hotel to any person coming to visit Mannar to watch Flamingos or the beautiful sun sets and night sky’s due to the location, cleanliness, and the excellent service standards.

Not what I expected at all. Took over an hour to get my food after placing the order. There were only few other guests over all. Need a lot of attention

Great hotel built tastefully. Extremely friendly and helpful staff and manager. Very comfortable chalets. The local food was great. Best Crab curry I have had in a very long time.

Undoubtedly the best place to stay at Mannar. Had a wonderful stay. The place is very unique with love to the nature. The hotel is perfectly built with nice and spacious rooms. Lovely activities around the hotel and the possibility of watching birds close by. The hotel offers bicycles which would allow you to drive with wonderful surroundings towards the beach.
The staff is exceptional and kind enough to help you with any requirement you need. The food was delicious. A worth a stay that will make you feel that you want to go again. Overall a great experience.

This is a place to stay when in Mannar high class, great service and excellent food and a very courtious staff the GM who can answer any questions with unlimited knowledge most interesting place to visit

Above all a great place for bird watching. I would say a perfect location to shoot grey francolins.
The hotel itself houses for so many birds with its large land and natural garden.
I would rate this as second for birdies where I’ll give 1st to Vauy resort
But for families and for kids I’d rate this first as it’s safer and comfy
