I did morning safari, highly recommend! Only few jeepa in park and plenty of elephants and other animals. Driver was a great guy, trying to find the best stops to see Animals and answering all questions. I am traveling alone and there was no problem to organize tour just for me.
Amazing experience for a good price!

Pabalu Vehera is a medieval monastery located in Polonnaruwa. It has been identified as the Rūpavathi Chéthiya built by a queen of King Parakramabahu I.

The name Pabalu Vehera derives from the large number of beads (pabalu in Sinhala) that were recovered from this site.

Located few meters away from kaduruwela town. Ample space for parking available. Another branch of well known hela bojun. Can have lots of varieties of vegitarian foods for reasonable cost. Can recommend to any type of travellers who love local and vegitarian food items.

The best local food we had the chance to eat in 3 weeks in Sri Lanka! We didn't expect anything like this. Absolutely delighted! All the vegetables that were found at the market were prepared in the most delicious way

And also service and care at the highest level

The buffet principle. 2500 rupees and eat as much as you can

As a base for our cultural visits to Polonnaruwa we chose the Tishan Holyday, a beautiful location on the immediate outskirts of the city. It is a structure surrounded by nature, with a beautiful garden overlooking the rice fields. A very quiet place with a wonderful swimming pool in the center to relax. Good breakfast but terrible dinner, unfortunately I have to say it was the worst we had during our tour in Sri Lanka. Our room was sufficiently spacious but strangely there was no wardrobe to store clothes in, there wasn't even a coat hanger. The shower was with semi-cold water, the availability of towels was reduced to one each, when normally there should be at least 2 each for each guest. I advise you to point this out immediately and ask for others. If you are traveling with a driver, please note that the property will not offer you a room to stay overnight. I consider this a very serious shortcoming. If you don't notice these defects, choose the Tishan because it undoubtedly has a good quality-price ratio.

Incredible building construction.
Long time ago how they did it. Sri lanka had such nice technology long time ago.
That history unbelievable.

We did the safari in the afternoon (from 1: 30 p.m. To 4: 30 p.m.). We saw elephant gatherings, it was magnificent. Only downside: a lot of jeeps around the elephants when they are in a group, it's a shame there are so many people:/

The stone temple is the main monument that is unfailingly seen by all those who visit and worship the Polonnaru ruins and are highly respected and admired.

Uttararamaya, built by King Parakramabahu of Polonnaruwa in the 12th century, is today known as the Stone Temple. The Uttararama complex is a great design of several statues prepared by cutting a rock that is 56 yards long. Lt. Fagan, Samuel Baker, J. W. Birch, who saw these designs during the colonial period, first photographed these ruins. W. Stewart, etc, have written appreciative notes about the stone temple. In 1907, the then Archaeological Commissioner noted that no other temple comparable to this can be found in the Indian continent.

First, three caves were built here namely Vijjadhara Caves, Nissinna Patima Caves and Nipanna Patima Caves. Another cave with a standing statue was built during the Polonnaru period itself. Two types of caves are found here. Caves with brick walls on three sides and dug into the rock as a cave. About 17 feet for the caves dug and prepared for this creation and about 15 feet for the other statues were cut from the face of the stone.

We arrived early in the morning, and there weren't many people around. Within minutes of entering, we spotted elephants! As we continued, we encountered large herds of them, and we were not too far away, which made the experience even more enjoyable. If you're looking to see elephants in a peaceful natural park setting, this is the place for you. The tranquility and proximity to these majestic creatures make it an unforgettable experience.

Located in really nice place. But very disappointed about service. Specially front desk. Rooms are clean and well arranged.
