Pigeon Island National Park Ticket Counter

The snorkeling around the island is great. Seen a reef shark with young after 15 minutes. A little later 3 or 4 sharks that swim quietly by. Quite a hassle to get there by boat; a lot of uncertainty about ticket prices. Ticket office at Nilaveli beach for the entrance tickets was very vaguely unclear! Price turned out not to be 25 dollars but more than 35 dollars per person.

Not only do they charge tourists many times more according to the price list, they also don’t take bucks, referring to the conversion! And it converts at a fictitious rate 2 times more expensive. Just terrible boors! With arrogant muzzles, tearing tourists at twice the price!

Due to a government decision the island is closed until February 2023. Do not bother to buy tickets until that time.

Staff Person at the Ticketing counter was extremely unprofessional. Took almost 25 mins to issue the tickets. He was quoting the wrong ticket price for our group. Recommend to workout the total amount according to published prices before paying the person. Other than that awesome experience with wildlife divers and snorkeling.

Boats are accommodating 7 persons including children. Now a boat could be hired around LKR 8,000. Good service and they got the snorkels you could hire.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාව තුල ජාතික සාගර වනෝද්‍යාන දෙකක් නම් කර ඇති අතර පරෙවි දූපත ජාතික වනෝද්‍යානය එම ජාතික සාගර වනෝද්‍යාන දෙකෙන් එකකි. මෙය පිහිටා ඇත්තේ ත්‍රීකුණාමලයට උතුරින් නැගෙනහිර පළාතේ පිහිටි ඉතාම ලස්සන වෙරළ තීරයක් වන නිලාවැලි වෙරලින් කිලෝමීටරයක් පමන දුරිනි.

මෙයට පරෙවි දූපත යන නාමය ලැබී ඇත්තේ ලංකාවට ආවේණික බ්ලූ රොක් පරෙවියන් සිය ගණනක් මෙම දුපත වාසස්ථානය කරගෙන ජීවත්ව සිටින නිසාය. තවමත් දුපත වෙත පිවිසෙන විට නරඹන්නන් හට බ්ලූ රොක් පරෙවියන් සියැසින් දැක ගැනීමට හැකිය.

මෙම සමුද්‍රීය අභයභූමිය හෙක්ටයාර 471.4 ක් දක්වා පැතිර ඇති අතර ඉන් හෙක්ටයාර 9 ක් ගොඩබිම් භුමි ප්‍රමාණයකින් ආවරණය වී ඇත. ඉතිරිය මුහුදු ජලයෙන් යටව පවතින අතර වනොද්‍යානයේ මායිම් රේඛාව වන තෙක් කොරල් තට්ටු වලින් සමන්විතය.

පරෙවි දූපත සමුද්‍රීය අභයභූමිය විශාල සහ කුඩා පරෙවි දූපත් ලෙස හැඳින්වෙන දූපත් දෙකකින් සමන්විතව පිහිටලා තියෙනවා. එය 1963 වර්ෂයේ දී සමුද්‍ර අභයභූමියක් ලෙස නම් කර තිබෙන අතර වර්ෂ 2003 දී ජාතික වනෝද්‍යානයක් ලෙස තෝරා ගෙන තිබෙනවා.

මෙහි විශාල දූපත ප්‍රදේශයේ මීටර 200 ක් පමණ දිගින් හා මීටර 100 ක් පමණ පළලින් යුතු කලාපයක් පුරා පිහිටි කොරල් තට්ටු වලින් සමන්විත වූ ඉතා අනර්ඝ කොරල් පරයක් දකින්න පුළුවන්. එහි ලංකාවේ වෙන කිසිම ප්‍රදේශයකින් හමු නොවන ආකාරයේ ඉතා දුර්ලභ ගනයේ කොරල් විශේෂ 100 ක් පමණ වාර්තා වෙනවා. මෙය ලංකාවේ පිහිටි ජෛව විවිධත්වය ඉහළ පරිසර පද්ධතියක් ලෙස හඳුනාගෙන ඇත.

Staff was unfriendly and unprofessional. 100% trying to scam.the navy officer who was on 20/10/2021 around 11am was very unprofessional.he over charged 2000 LKR for the boat service and later I had to fight with him.he was very rude and will never ever come to this place

The Pigeon Island National Park is located on two islands (Large Pigeon Island and Small Pigeon Island), 1 kilometer off the Nilaveli coast, in the Eastern province. The islands are known as the ‘Pigeon Islands’ because of the concentration of rock pigeons found there. Rumour has it the two island were once a colonial shooting range. The islands are connected by a sand bank and fringed by a coral reef in which many species of coral and coral reef fish are found. The islands were designated a sanctuary in 1963 and elevated to status of national park in 2003. Blacktip reef shark have been spotted in the shallow areas around the island, and a variety of other sea creatures—ornamental fish, Hawksbill turtle, green turtle and olive ridley, count among those that can be found there. Pigeon Island was cut off from the public during the war, but has seen increased tourism since the war ended in 2009.

We have to get the tickets and permission from this counter to enter the pigeon island. This counter is infront of the nilaveli beach. From here we van get the boats to go to the pigeon island
