Gemi Gedara reviews
45A hidden gem of a restaurant that serves local food. Food is served buffet style and the place overlooks a paddy field. It's a little tricky to find but well worth the visit for a nice, home cooked meal.
We had lunch here and it was excellent.this place is good to enjoy the typical sri lankan rice and curry.friendly staff and beautiful view
Even if the road is dark and it's hard to find it be patient, because it will be the best food you will eat in Sri Lanka. It's traditional food and you have 15-20 choices. Try a little bit of everything. Our driver said it was typical food and really really good food. Very clean place and nice lady (who cooks everything by herself).
A hidden gem along a rice field we would have never found without the help of our driver. The place was clean and felt authentic, the staff was very welcoming. The food was delicious, all products were fresh and local. It's definitely not cheap: 900 Rs per person, but for that price you can try as many of the ~15 dishes as you want. Make sure you leave some room for the fresh fruits and curd (a local yogurt with coconut and honey) that come at the end of the meal.
Local non-spicy options, mostly veg. Very tasty and friendly. Buffet was 900 Rs per person. Recommend.
We had lunch here and it was excellent! The taste of the food was extraordinary and you could choose from a buffet with lots of different and local vegetables. Its in a nice little hut where the food is cooked on a local stove. The view is incredible nice over a big rice field and you can see birds also. If you want an authentic meal you should not miss this place!
We loved this place! Very quiet and unassuming, with a buffet of mainly vegetarian curries. The rotis were light and fluffy. You look out onto a rice field, there are also various fruit trees and plants surrounding the restaurant, it feels like it's miles from anywhere, very chilled out. Some of the buffet curries are lukewarm/cold due to the way they are presented, but we didn't mind too much.
Seven of us were here for lunch in Dec 2018. The place is just a few Km off Polonnaruwa town, set in a superbly lush paddy field right next to a stream. Its tranquil and serene. Food is excellent (Sri Lankan rice and curry) and exceptional value for money. Run by a friendly family and an Authentic village experience. Highly recommended.
Incredible place, nice people, amazing food, and what a view! We spent a lovely moment here for 2400 rp for 2.
Incredible place to have lunch!
Local food eaten with the hands as the local people do it.
I just loved it!
Absolutely fantastic buffet currys in a mud hut. Over 20 different options to choose from, mostly veg with 1 or 2 meat. Wonderful so went back the next day. 5 Star.
Veg friendly rice n curry buffet. They have variety of veg curries and of course chicken too. All the curry was delicious and the peaceful view to the paddy field was also nice.
Rustic and beautiful setting. Authentic and exotic vegetables expertly prepared. Good and friend service. Excellent value!
Buffet style. Avoid coming after 2pm as food is not replenished after the lunch time rush and whatever left is mostly cold by then. A variety of local vegetarian curries with one or two meat/fish options. Dishes look better than they taste. Not bad food but definitely not 4+ stars as current ratings suggest
We (American/German) visited Gemi Gedara today for lunch and it was perfect. We tried their beautiful Sri Lankan curries like lake fish and chicken, as well as red rice, white rice, coconut roti, manioc, plantains, lentil dal, pumpkin, okra, mango, and sooo much more. The staff (family) is incredibly sweet and they’ll drop a nice big lotus leaf in front of you and off you go to get your 1st, 2nd, 3rd helping. If you’re in town, do drop by. It’s like eating at your favorite Auntie’s kitchen while overlooking a huge and serene rice field.
Best Sri Lankan country and healthy foods ever. Nice and peaceful place surrounded by a village.
This was definitely a great local experience. Housed in a tiny mud hut along with delightfully nice hosts, the food was super tasty and a delight to have. The farm nearby along with the trees providing respite under the sun, you get to choose from a lot of amazing vegetable curries and rice and bread made of coconuts. One of the most Unforgettable experiences. Definitely recommended.
A shack in the middle of paddy fields, this place served up the best food in Sri Lanka. Simple food - rice and 15 different vegetable preparations, and fresh fruits for dessert, all served on a lotus leaf. Rustic food at its best. Must visit.
Awesome place that gives a flavour of local Sri Lankan food.a must visit for ppl who want to experience true Sri Lankan hospitality!
Excellent local sri lankan food made farmers, place is cozy and people are very friendly. If you want to stop for tasting local sri lankan food this is one place I recommend.
