The Deer Park Hotel

I spent a night here when I was vacationing back in 2016. What a fantastic experience. Got a package deal included 3 meal buffet and a evening jeep safari for about $110 USD. Great deal! Hotel itself what fantastic! I love the outdoorsy shower. The food, the atmosphere, and of course the staff, just perfect! Definitely coming back again!

Check-in was horrible. But later things became ok. However, they should know to maintain the same level of professionalism all the time. But I still luv the location, awesome.

Beautiful hotel built blending with nature. Amazing location with views overlooking the giritale lake. It’s really awesome in evenings. The sunset is superb. Place is really calm and tranquil. They have 2 pools one has a jacuzzi too. Rooms are spacious and in two floors. Lobby and the bathroom in ground floor and the bed area and balcony in upper flow. Food is average service is good. One star less since they have forgotten about our anniversary which I have mentioned to them many times and they agreed to do a special decoration which they didn’t.

Superb experience.starting from General manager, staff, food, location, Rooms, service are very good.recomended hotel in Polonnaruwa. If you need to see a sun set over a Lake, this is one of best places.calm, relaxing place.

Without doubt one of the favorite hotels I stayed, Excellent hospitality, The staff was extremely friendly, the restaurant very flexible (appreciate this!) and the restaurant supervisor deserves a special thanks. The scenery was beautiful and it was a relieve to walk in such a quiet and peaceful environment.
The service was outstanding from the time we arrived to our departure.room was very spacious and clean.

The best experience in girithale with full of nature. Isolated jungle side cottages are very nice and private. The feeling is like in the mid of the jungle though other cottages are closeby. Inside architecture is perfect and well recommended for a couple to spend two days. Though there are few a activities inside, a nature lover can spend the whole day.

It is no denying that it is beautiful property overlooking the Giritale reservoir/lake & close proximity to ancient kingdom of Polonnaruwa. Unfortunately rest everything is not pleasing at all. The food is pathetic, taste ridiculous & so is the attitude of the staff. The restaurant manager is reluctant to listen to any feedback. We were four of us including two kids & stayed at the property for two nights & three days. The dinner buffet on the first night was cold & there was nothing which suited our palate. In fact to our surprise left over stale Sri Lankan curries was served in the breakfast buffet from the previous night. They were in fact left cold which my wife complained. The fruits have all kind of flies hoovering over. My wife complained to restaurant manager & he was not not happy to listen. We decided that we will surely not have our lunch or dinner in the hotel. Lucky we found a great Indian restaurant 'Rajadhani Indian Restaurant' in Polonnurwa where we had our lunch. We could not take a chance for dinner & rushed back to the a Pizza hut which is opposite to the Indian restaurant we had lunch.

Unfortunately we had to have breakfast the next morning at the hotel as we were suppose to check out. The food again was univiting, the french toast were burnt black, the potato wedges were absolutely cold, fruits were again with small insects sitting on them, jam was with small ants & I felt like vomiting. We requested them to make french toast again but they bought them after reheating twice over. When I called the manager he started with asking me that 'What is the complaint today Sir'. I told him to feel & touch the potato wedges if they are hot enough which he responded saying that are warm enough. Truly bad experience at the restaurant.

The problem is that these guys are only use to Chinese Travellers who are booked through a travel companies without any choices. They usually land up in evening to spend the night after dinner & leave early morning after the breakfast as the hotel is close to ancient sites. They don't care much as this is just a transit hotel & probably don't care to review as they probably have not spent enough time at the property. In actuals the staff is not well managed & facilitates are also in shambles. They have a basketball court but no basket ball. Similarly they have a table tennis table without the net & TT balls.

Room service & house keeping is good. Upkeeping of the rooms is well. Clean bathroom & bed linen. Absolutely comfortable beds. Only thing is food they serve is terrible. If you can avoid food in the hotel, go for it. Otherwise look for another hotel.

Amazimg place, quite surrounding, relaxing place, food is excellent, experience of a village hotel for reasonable price, also an amazing lake view with tropical winds, loved this place.

* Pool needs more attention like much cleaner, cl% seems high. Eyes get irritated.
* No internet in the rooms
* The hotel is old, rusty and lacks maintenance
* Poor service

Such a beautiful place. Great food.specialty is sri lankan food. Rooms are large. Cozy bed and chairs. Nice open bathroom. Good for honeymoon couples. The environment of the hotel is beautiful. Goes with nature. Pool is large and in two partitions. But was not cleaned very well. Spa is great. Had a great service there for a very low price. They have a sauna too. Gym is full of new machines. Overall enjoyed and had a good stay with a great service from the staff. Highly recommend the place.

Delicious foods are served and really really tasty. The view facing to the Girithale reservoir is unforgettable. But the staff seems not working responsibly as they forget things like feeding chair, the number of dishes ordered etc. Ignoring those staff the place and food can be recommended.

1- No internet in the rooms
2- Very bad house keeping
3-Poor breakfast
4-Undercooked chicken and very hard meat, order takes so long to be prepared
5- Rude staff at the restaurant
6- Water in the rooms are not complementary if we order more so as the American coffee for breakfast.

We were there on our honeymoon. We got an amazing room with bath tub and a complementary food plate at arrival. Very attentive staff who helped us to arrange transportation every day. Watch out for cheeky monkeys eager to steal food or drinks from you.

The house looks old. Close to lake. Toilet outdoors. AC is noisy. No wifi in house. It is very close to the nature, animals can be found everywhere.

Amazing location and beautiful rooms. Unfortunately it has sold it's soul to the Chinese/Japanese coach tour trade so you will have to put up with strangers taking photos from your balcony if it has a better view than yours (we had a very good view) and a decimated buffet as they descend at opening time.

The Deer Park Hotel is located in a very lovely place in front of Girithale lake. The architecture of the hotel is breathtaking. The hotel was designed in a nice way of mixing buildings with the environment. Their food is tasty and I highly recommend this hotel.

Lovely place. You can enjoy your meal while enjoying the view. They serve good quality food and the place is neat and tidy. They have well maintained garden. They also have a spa and a bar. Ideal place to hangout and spend the time with your family and friends. They have variety of dishes to select from Srilankan to Indian and many more.
